Cooking is fun. Groceries are cheap. Impress your guests with a nice homecooked meal :)

that's really dumb logic. Because they don't get paid enough, you shouldnt tip them....think about what you just said.

Just because you pay your taxes like everyone else (like you have a choice), doesn't make it o.k. to what 99% of people accept as common practice. Your logic is skewed.

If you think the average gfy'er can cook then the food of choice is probably hot dogs.

Servers down here get about $2 an hour. I ALWAYS tip the person who prepares my takeout. Having been a server who has five tables to take care of and had to prepare a take-out order, I've been there and I don't think my money is better then that server's time and effort.

And anyone who thinks waititng tables is just delivering an order needs to go take a job at Perkins or something just to see what it's like. It was probably one of the most stressful jobs I've ever had, where I got treated the worst, and had the worst hours.

I am astonished by the attitudes of people towards service industry workers, and I am glad that I can say I have respect for anyone who earns an honest living.

thats not what im saying at all. if you read the post i was replying to this guy seems to think that we should feel sorry that these people make such shitty pay and give them money because of that and not because of the service they provide. personally i don't think its right that resturants get away with paying less than minimum wage to their servers.

nah, i don't think you should feel sorry for them and pay them more. i think you should be alittle more conciderate to them instead of thinking their jobs easy as cake, 99% of you who say it is easy, couldn't last a week as a waiter/waitress

and if you think its their fault they don't get paid good, and should get a better job, or better education (which has nothing to do with why they are waitress') then maybe if they stopped waiting on you, you'd start crying because you had to get off your fat lazy as and prepair your own food instead of sitting down, reading a menu and say "i want this, and that, and if you fuck it up, im gonna give you a verbal beat down!" :321GFY

The rules for tipping in the UK are pretty complicated.

but living in London makes things easier - if you dont like them, you dont tip and you dont go back. There are a 1000 others to try.

In NZ you only tip if you REALLY liked the service and then you get a big smile and a thanks you. I had cabbies look offended when I tipped - like I was offering them some sort of charity.

sweetME 07-11-2006 02:57 PM

I would not tip her at all, it's not like she served me at the restaurant, they should be happy I ordered my takeout from them and not some where else

yeah thats right, waitress' don't make much, thats why they take tips, because with tips, they make their money... girls i worked if they never got tips, they would work a whole 10 hours for less then $50 a day... is that worth it to you? i doubt you would still have that job if you only made that...

with tips they make between $10 and $15 an hour... thats if they get to KEEP all the tips... alot of places put the tips in a huge jar and split it between all waitress', waiters, and dishwashers... where some require the waitress to split their tips with the dishwashers, thats it...

and yeah, maybe if you stop being an asshole and tip them you wouldn't need to worry about someone spitting in your food... I always tip be it just picking up a cheese burger or if i go sit down and have a 3 course meal... i tip... because tips are what makes their jobs pay decent, unlike you pricks who sit on your ass infront of a computer and look at naked chicks all day for money, they actually bust their asses hardcore for their measily money, and thats just at that job, alot of waitress' work 2 to 3 jobs just to beable to pay their rent for their 1 bedroom rundown appartment that costs way to fucking much ...

Well, not sure why I have to tip somebody I don't know because they would rather yap there face off during school time instead of getting a real education and job. If a waitress is older than 22, they don't deserve shit, they had their chance at school and a "better life".

P.S. My Ex-Girlfriend made over $150 on tips alone in a small fish restaurant on an evening shift. She didn't deserve it for taking simple orders, and maybe washing a floor before closing. The service industry is filled with arrogant people that are so in love with themselves they will probably never do anything with their lives but buy a big mirror to makeout with.

Huskie 07-11-2006 03:00 PM

btw, I tip well anyway.

I don't tip on take-out, although, sushi take-out may be one time I would. I wouldn't consider a tip to the person "taking care of me" I would consider it a tip to the Sushi Chef. But, I also never get sushi to go, so this situation would never occur.

dvsb 07-11-2006 03:38 PM

I HATE TIP-NAZI's

I've said it before and i'll say it again. The more and more you spoil these bitches, soon you will be paying 75% of your bill to the server for something she already gets paid for. Dont you guys see this shit coming?! WTF.

1. Good service gets a tip

2. Shitty service can fuck right off, with a complaint to management.

I can goto a nice small independant restaurant, get quality food, service and be thanked on my way out, and I leave them very generous tips, because they treat each of their customers with gratitude for supporting their biz.

then you goto any Mainstream Restaurant, and all the servers are fuckin chitty chatty in the corner while your waiting for your food, bad attitude when its served, and all round shitty service.. and then they expect a huge tip at the end of that "experience" lol.. fuck who are they kidding.

also, (this has never happened to me, but i've heard of it before) some places make you sign a WAVER that you WILL tip on your way out, and if you dont sign it, they dont serve you. WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT! haha, "Please Sign Over Your Life Before We Seat You"

thats the most fucked up shit i've heard, and TIP-NAZI's can gargle my fuckin balls.

because unless I get good service, you aint gettin shit.

cover charge is normally put in place, to keep the bums out, if there was no cover charge, you would be drinking with tommy the bum on the corner. and he would be scaring the ladies away.

Logic is skewed? How? Why isn't the employees wages included in the price of the food? Why is it upto the customer to pay an employee. Does the restaurant think it will be able to survive with zero servers?
Sounds more like assholes paying people shitty wages rather than anything to do with the customer.

Juilan 07-11-2006 03:50 PM

Yeah same happened at Buca take out recently, what the fuck do they expect?

reynold 07-11-2006 07:39 PM

Giving tips should be costumers' prerogative..

MaddCaz 07-11-2006 07:39 PM

LOL yeah I hear you :) I had had a large post typed out and decided to keep it pithy.

I think a wait staff being paid a higher hourly wage will serve as well or better than a wait staff going up and down in mood every moment based on great or shitty tips. Personally, I'd want the higher steady hourly wage and no tips.

But thats not the way it is, so.. I cook, lol.

sharp 07-11-2006 08:02 PM

that's stupid as hell. it's like tipping at a fast food place. haha

E$_manager 07-11-2006 08:31 PM

you only have to pay if they serve you.

minusonebit 07-11-2006 09:01 PM

I never tip takeout. I do not owe them anything for bringing me a fucking bag of food. If they wanted a tip, they should have delivered it.

Tipping is based on the amount of effort put forth and QOS. Hence my tips at buffets where I do all the work and all they do is bring water, the tip is lower and non-existant if they dont keep the water filled up.

:winkwink:

cover charge is just simple supply and demand. if a place holds 100 people and 200 people want to come in why not charge $10 to get in if only 100 of them are willing to pay that much?

Blame the employer for paying shitty wages, not the customer for not tipping. Since when it is the responsibility of ther consumer to directly contribute to an employees wage? That is the responsibility of the employer.

UtahSaints 07-11-2006 09:20 PM

bartender yes, because he has to report his totals at the end and he has to go back in the kitchen and bitch with bunch of mexican cooks to get your order in time..

Damn right Joe. From previous comments in this thread it appears servers can be paid $2/hour and rely on tips to survive. Hell... many third world countries earn more than that.

It never was the customer's responsibility to pay staff salaries in the form of tips. Faking the real price of food by not paying wages is a joke.

gecko 07-11-2006 10:11 PM

I don't tip when I pickup, cause it's not really a service. Do you tip when you buy groceries? I put it as the same thing
