Sneding in a copy of my id is not an issue. But I do have a problem sending in a copy of a CC. And when I do send in a copy of my ID, I always make sure to black out some of the DL numbers etc.

Real scammers would use Photoshpoed ID, this only scares away the honest people.

I told gabe not to even worry about sending me my checks from one of my closed accts. its that personal.

I was also asked to fax in my CC and DL when I ordered a new server from my host. At the time it was annoying as I didn't have easy access to a fax machine, and I had been a customer of theirs for 13 months already, but they stood firm.

I have a fax machine now so the request wouldn't be quite so annoying... although the customer loyalty thing still pisses me off.

One thing I will never do is send a copy "in the clear": both cards had some information blocked out. There are enough details visible for them to figure out that it's the same CC I entered into their online signup form.

Have ever and will never send any Photo ID or card information other than what is reasonable (specifically to charge a card) to any host or anyone else.

A host will have a corp name, address, phone/fax and email addresses.

Anything other than that is irrevelant. Either provide the service ordered and paid for or fuck off - it's not open for discussion.

Like i said in the other thread , karma will come back on them , wait til every billing company requires this for adult sites and the goverment makes checking photo ID mandatory to have access to any kinda of adult site.

Or when they actully make the site owners have a copy of thier own ID on the billing form so you know who you are buying a membership from and they are legit.

i don't find it any more paranoid than what the hosting company is doing. sure, there is probably a better chance of a customer screwing the company but the consequences are much smaller in my opinion. they might lose out on one months server costs or possibly get an ip range blacklisted but identity theft takes years to sort out and can ruin a persons credit for life. im not talking simple cc theft, that happens all the time. i had both my debit and creditcard numbers stolen last summer. one from using it around town, and the other from using it online but i didn't worry about, all monies stolen were replaced in a couple months. but when my drivers license could be used to send bad wires or launder money via western union, that is just too scary for me. call me paranoid if you want, its fine with me. someone mentioned they black out their DL number, well shit if i can do that then i'd have no problem.
