about 2.3 million Canadians watched which is what a nationally telecast NHL playoff game would do - up by a million from the last World Cup.

I couldn't find any yet on the figures for the final, but I did find this on bloomberg about the earlier games: "The U.S. audience for World Cup on ESPN is up 55 percent this year from the 2002 games, with the average match reaching about 1.6 million households. ABC ratings increased 108 percent to an average 2.77 million households."

Obviously the figures for the final will be much higher and it was shown simulataneously on ABC and ESPN.
