I take my sony to the beach all the time, never had a problem... I think you can get protective baggies, they might blur the picture a little but it's still better than getting your camera fucked.. I take my sony video camera to the beach all the time, and have never had a problem (except for angry husbands/boyfriends).

I have a case for my camera that allows me to shoot with it underwater, and the housing has a seperate lens covering I can put on that I use out of water but in hostile environments like the beach, or gay clubs.....

sucks...i have the same one...i was using it during sex with my girl friend the other night and the fucking lense stopped half way..i was able to get it fixed here in Uruguay for under $40..
