Bust this testimony about kick ass Thailand's medical care!
A pal posted this on another board he's mentioning how cheap but professional Thailand's medical care is. This is what I had been saying when I called for dental care. It cost me more for fucking lunch with a girlfriend than for dental in Thailand!
"I had occaision to spend a few days in the hospital in Thailand and was so impressed by the facilities and the staff that I wonder why more people do not go to Thailand for treatment. While I was there I had a complete physical including CAT scan, blood tests, and stress test. The total cost was $210! I also had my teeth fixed for $160. I had been told by a US dentist that it would cost me $14,000. I was there for 3 days in a private room and the total cost was $120 My doctor was trained in the US and I asked him why he worked in Thailand. He said that he loves Thailand and the work is much less stressful. He is not pressured to produce like American doctors and can take his time with patients. All of the nursing staff are RN's and there seemed to be one for every patient. I've always had the greatest respect for nurses and these are the best of the best. They even wear the traditional cap that is long gone from the US. I visited several patients who were also from the states and they all shared my impressions. One who had done his homework before comming told me that the risk of mistakes and reinfection was about 1/10th of the US rates. The hospital, Bangkok-Pattaya looks more like a 5 star hotel than a hospital and was built to cater to foreign patients. So I've done some research on my own and I'm surprised at how little information there is about medical outsourcing in Thailand. It looks like the costs are about 15% of US costs the care is better and most people take a vacation while there here. Outsourcing has hurt many American workers, but here is a form of it that seems to be a huge benefit. " |

I have nothing but good things to say about the Thai hospitals. Been unlucky enough to go to them a few times, even once in an emergency situation.
Was treated and tended to WAY better than any USA hospital for a fraction of the cost. USA hospitals are hose jobs. If I ever had anything serious come up, I would take care of it in Thailand. |

From experience, the medical care is amazing. One of the positives there for sure. But don't expect the same service in the restaurants.....
15 people working, and not one will bother to acknowledge any of the customers ![]()

I recently caught an unfortunate side affect of my love of little brown asses. I went to three doctors in the USA - THREE. The first had no appointments for a week. The second was - I swear to Christ - OUT TO LUNCH - and the third one refused to see me because I was 5 minutes late to my appointment.
I suffered the painful burning for a week until I got back to Thailand. At 9 am the next morning I went to the hospital - saw a doctor and received effective treatment within 10 minutes. Total for services and prescription: $20. Fuck you America. Fuck you very much. |

I had a serious eye infection (Could nearely open my eye, and it was internally bleeding or something) one night in Pattaya when I was supposed to go out hanging out with some of my buddies. It was about 10 PM when we took a motorbike to the hostpital. I didn't have my ID with me or anything had to fill in my name and age to take place. 5 minutes later two USA doctors took me in a room, checked on my eye cleaned it and gave me the right medicines. I was out in about 20 minutes, no waiting lines. Paid $30 and my eye was fixed within 10 days. I could even hang out with my buddies, just joined them a hour later then planned. The only damage I led was to catch up on the drinks I was behind

One of my buddies was over there and rented a motorcycle to travel with. He ended up getting quite a burn on his leg from the exhaust and ended up going in for treatment. His was a little more special I guess because he has diabetes. Apparently they did everything right, or better.
He was very very impressed with the medical industry in Thailand. |

Alot of Swedes go to thailand for vaction and to do medical stuff.
And Sweden has the second best medical care in europe, we would have been number 1 if there wasnt for a bit longer waiting times. |

Apparently the medical care in SE Asia is better--an obviously cheaper--than many people expect. I've been in the Philippines the past 6 months and I contracted a serious respiratory infection. I was quite concerned about having to deal with medical personnel over here, but I was referred to a medical facility that caters to many foreigners. What I received was a thorough exam, a chest x ray, four perscription meds for less than $100US. Now I'm not saying I received better care than I would have if i were in the US, but it was comparable and fractions of the cost.
The US version of medical care is whacked due to many factors, not the least of which is the powerful insurance and medical lobbying groups such as the AMA which pander to almighty Bush who could give a rats ass about affordable medical care in the country in which I was born and raised. So I think I'll hang in Manila a little longer. Besides, there are a lot of local attractions here. |
