            Your processor is not lying to you,free trials are horrible for converting from free to paid...we run both.

            BUT they might not of told you you get more signups...if the site is right

                We've tried paid and free signups... Free gets you a whole lot more trials, but doesn't convert better for shit. It also attracts more chargebacks from the idiots that forget to cancel and blame it on you. As a bonus you get a higher bandwidth bill from the leechers as well.

                Someone not willing to pay $3. isn't really the kind of "customer" I want anyway.

                  Yes you do...BUT you get a lower on average conversion rate and other probelms associated with it like Suntzu said.

                        I guess it depends on how you promote your site also. If I were paying $35 per sign I wouldn't want to offer free trials.
