How Helpful Are the Webmaster Convention Seminars?

Hello!

For those who have attended webmaster conventions, I would like to ask your opinions on the effectiveness of the seminars?

At the last Montreal Cyber Net Expo, the quality of speakers were fantastic, however, the attendence was low for many of the speakers! What do you think?

Terribly ineffective. A total waste of time in my opinion. I have found that "seminars" are one of two things (or both).

1) Spam.
2) Completely newbie oriented.

Seminars are almost always held at large webmaster conventions like InterNext, etc. The only people that attend are already making money in the adult biz, otherwise they wouldn't have the money to attend. Those folks have no interest in attending a seminar about making galleries. When I go, if I see something interesting I might hit the seminar. It would be nice to have some topics that aren't newbie related.

The seminars 2001 in Miami were informative, but the same stuff you hear anywhere. And a couple of the old-timers bitched about new webmasters stealing their traffic.

Thats about all i can remember though, i was pretty drunk throughout the entire conference

I think for the most part they are huge waste of time, I mean who the Fuck want to listen to some of the speakers, moan and groan about how big their hangover is.Fortunately this was an all inclusive package. Live and learn, I have paid in the past only to be severly dissapointed.

In most industries, I have found convention seminars to be 99% worthless.

However, going to the conventions can be good for your business, depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

They are good if you have problems sleeping, will surely make you pass out from boredom.

Also, if you don't get invited to any good parties, and you wake up early, it gives you something to do during the day doesn't it! LMAO

I hear they're quite effective if you like to party... I haven't had the luxury of attending one yet cause I'm old and can't afford to attent. Nobody will send me a plane ticket to attend... I can't understand it..

it would be nice to have several pc's availeble and put webmasters together in a group of 5 or 6 and give them a period of time to create a certain website / project everyone has his skills that way you could really learn from each other.

LOL the conventions are productive, it's the seminars that are in question.

Will somebody send this guy a plane ticket already!

Just come to the back of the seminar and fuck around with the peanut gallery, we're the ones with the shades on drinking Red Bull

I might look all fucked up hung over but I'm actually listening to everything. Seriously... sit in the back of the seminar and listen to panel members and the audience speak. Some newbs actually have good ideas. Then when the seminar is over mosey around and talk to people you think half way have their shit together and are looking to make deals.

This was the first convention where I actually went to a few seminars and the first time I spoke on one. I was pleasantly surprised to find the seminars I attended to be informative and useful. It was also good because I ran into people I might have missed at the parties. As far as my panel, many people came up to me afterward and had good feedback. So overall it was a good experience.
