Yes! Strike a victory for free speech. No one wants kids accessing porn, besides the obvious reason, there's no money in it either. But this law is wrong.

Judges Toss Out Online Porn Law

Email this Story

05/31/2002 9:10 AM EDT

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Three federal judges on Friday threw out a federal law that would have forced public libraries to equip computers with software designed to block access to Internet pornography.

In a 195-page decision, the judges said the Children's Internet Protection Act went too far because it also blocking access to sites that contained protected speech.

"Any public library that adheres to CIPA's conditions will necessarily restrict patrons access to a substantial amount of protected speech in violation of the First Amendment," the judges wrote.

Will the COPA keep kids from learning about sexually transmitted diseases, condom use, & other health related information?

I'm thinking maybe thats why they keep throwing it out?

I'm glad free speech won out on this one. You'd think after 9-11 stirring crap up like COPA etc would be the last thing on their minds. But as long as there's conservative christians around, we'll always have another Nazi like Ashc r o f t pushing their views on us.

btw - lensman you may have a bug.. I spelled Ashc r o f t like that because when I spell it normally it comes out like this Ashooooo. wtf?

Seems this would mean those judges don't believe adult sites should be protected by free speech.

The original Judge in 1996 stated that by protecting the children (which is their rally cry) you can not protect them to the point of retricting their access once they gain legal age to view the material in question.

Most teenangers with internet surf porn. Nothing we can do about it. Why do they have to write 195 pages on this decision? I feel sorry for that writer.

First thing I searched on excite when I got online when I was 18 was "blowjob". Those were the days when just seeing a titty could get me off.
