Pay $160 for Vbulletin Forum or get a FREE phpBB forum?

gonna be installing a message board soon, and I think the board is gonna be pretty big as far as traffic is considered...
should I just spend $160 for a VBulletin board which is considered the best forums out there, or should I just get a phpBB board which is free? I had a few people recomend phpBB to me yesterday, but now I cant decide which to go with.

What I do not want to do is to go with the phpBB board and then a few months from now decide that i need to upgrade to VBULLETIN...I want to pick one and just stick with it. what u think? Will phpBB be sufficent if the board makes it big?

    Fuck em both. ikonBoard.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

        vBulletin.

It's currently running on sites with millions of posts and hundreds of thousands of users.

Version 3.0 should be out sometime soon, but I wouldn't upgrade until it's been tested in the real world for a while.

Point me to an Ikonboard site with over a million posts, eh? Maybe they do exist, but I haven't seen one.

they can both handle a load and a lot of users/posts. one of them is free, the other is not. it all depends on what you want to do.

vbulletin has a community of hackers for it too, who make mods and shit and share them on vbulletin.org - that might make it worth the price (maybe support comes with the cost too...)

i don't know if phpBB has a community thing for that kinda stuff either...

I guess there is a reason one is pay and one is free.

If you can afford it get the VBulletin board

If you do get vBulletin, and if you are going to have high traffic, you should go to the vB support forums and read up on the tweaking you can do to make it scream.

                    vBulletin is the king!

We've been using it for over 2 years now.

get openbb, it's free and has nearly the same stuff as vb.
