Apart from it would have been the sensible thing to do in the first place... yea, much for the reasons of "foot soldiers" and now in possession of nukes.

I don't think the US is in any position to go to war with another country at this point no matter what. Not to mention most of this is probably only taking place because of the US govt's "Axis of Evil" bullshit.
