Why cops target you when you drive off a bar parking lot?

I was at starbucks with friends, around 10:45pm, i left. Instead of exiting the shopping center right there and make a U turn later, i drove over to next building, which is a bar, and exit from that side. And i seen cops pulling over people from that street all the time. I said, well, i am not drunk or anything so what will happen???

As soon as i made a turn out of the lot, there was a cop behind me, i drove like a mile, he was still behind me. So by now he knows i am not drunk cause i did 2 left turns and passed like 5 lights so far. But he still turns his lights on and i wonder what kinda reason will he pull off to stop me.

Well the cover on the licence plate i had was bigger then usually so i was obstructing people to see my plate and so on and he gives me a ticket for it. And i had that thing there for 2 years and i been pulled over b4, so why now? just because i wasnt drunk when i was through that bar's parking lot, so he coulnt get me.

Anyone had similar experience?

There was a cop in California who was doing this... what part of your plate was obstructed? There is caselaw on the books in favor of the defendant that so long as the numbers are not being obstructed then its OK, regardless of what the letter of the law actually says...

It was not obstructing any part of the plate. It is just around the licence plate. The licence plate is in open view and letters can be read regardless. I am not in Cali, so i guess they are everywhere.

most cops are idiotic, childlike, and easily angered. I think sometimes they are more angry when you AREN'T doing anything wrong than when you are.

yup, they get mad when they dont get their cop of the year award. i left work at midnight before and stopped at a car dealership to look around outside at the cars (they left it open for a reason). the cop pulled me over when he saw me leaving because he thought i was stealing stuff. he searched my car then continued to question me. he finally said "you didnt do anything wrong so im going to have to let you go" like he was mad that i didnt do anything he could bust me on.

What state are you in? I just got a license plate frame that puts out a message when the brakes are on. There is no question that it is making several letters of my plate look like something else.

As far as your incident, one night, several years ago, I went to drop something off at this chick's house. As she had 2 huge rott's that I never felt that comfortable around, I stood outside her fence and talked to her a bit while dropping the item off.

As fate might have it a patrol car cruised by and noticed me there. Her son had had a lot of trouble with the law (I think he was in jail at the time), and she was no angel.

When I left they had pulled off on a side street and parked with their lights off. I had a feeling they might be waiting so I had noticed them before they turned on lights and followed me.

They pulled me over and tore my car apart looking for who knows what . . of which I had none. They let me go about a half hour later.

I'd be angry too... you don't become a cop to hand out traffic tickets between you and me.

Cars pulling out of bars are low hanging fruit. 70% of the time they can get a big ticket DUI.

Your preachin to the choir!!! I've been pulled over 6 times now in the 3 years I've been a driver!!! (never gotten a ticket though : ) One time I was taking a left turn and it wasn't the greatest of left turns, I have to admit, but I guess the cop thought I was drunkenly swirving so he pulls me over and tells me that the reason why I was pulled over is because my liscense plate light was out! Who cares?!? I didn't even know a liscense plate light existed! I hate 'em, I think there are the most cops per capita in my town and the cops are one of the highest paying cops in the nation...or maybe I'm just paranoid since I've been pulled over 6 times...

yeah, cops give bogus reasons if they can't get you for anything, because if they don't they can get into trouble for pulling people over for nothing...

when i was 17, i lost my license and the cops in my area knew i didn't have my license, well i got them back, and that night i was driving around and i got pulled over, i knew right there he was hoping to get me for driving without a license, and when he came up, he didn't even get a chance to say "drivers license and registration" i handed both to him and said "no, farva (not his real name, we call him farva because hes dumb and reminds us of Rod Farva on Super Troopers), im not driving without a license" so he wrote me a warning for my license plate light being out... i didn't think anything of it, was a warning after all, i went home and told my dad, he said he'd fix it in the morning...

...well needless to say, my dad was furious because the light was fine, so he went and reemed the cops out... cop got suspended for a week...

fuck cops... hate em
