LINCOLN, Neb. -- A Lincoln woman who has had run-ins with the law regarding public nudity has been convicted in her latest case. A judge has found Melissa Harrington, 23, guilty of violating a public decency ordinance when she hosted a wet T-shirt contest at a Lincoln bar in March. Police said Harrington conducted the show while topless. Harrington argued that she was not nude from the waist up, because she covered her nipples and areolae with pink paint. A Lancaster County judge ruled last week that the paint wasn't enough, because it was transparent. Harrington faces as much as eight months in jail when she's sentenced on Aug. 2. Harrington was ticketed in 2003 for naked Internet pictures of herself taken in a downtown Lincoln bar.

It is sad but their are stupid laws that we all have to follow. I wish Melissa the best and the smallest penalty she can get as I think it is ridiculous but but that is the rule of that land. Sometimes you have to weigh what you think are your rights against the consequences you will probably get. That is just reality. If it is worth it to you, go for it... which must have been her train of thought. I wish her the best.

FWIW, to the kiddies here: If there is a law you disagree with, there are basically two ways to get rid of it.

1. Start a referendum to have it put on the ballot, and let the voters decide.

2. Get arrested, and take it thru the system and try to get it overturned on Constitutional grounds or legal error.

I am guessing Melissa is going with option 2. More power to her. The world needs more martyrs.

you are right, my facts are wrong.....I am just goig from what she has posted on gfy time after time....I used the # 10 as a random #, but she has gotten quite a few tickets, and in a small town getting a ticket for something like that is just as bad as standing in front of the judge

when you get a bunch of tickets for breaking the same law over and over again, and then get charged criminally for it, the judge will loook back on those tickets and factor that into his precedings.

i am not a lawyer one bit, but have spent plenty of time in front of a judge for stupid shit that I should not have done

The whole conviction and the law behind it is at least stupid to say. I won't speak for the judge, because I do not know the exact law, possible he did his job and can't be blamed. I can't say though this person can have any positive impact in the society when he is willing to send for 8 months in jail a woman for this ridiculous thing. Melissa has my support and I'm wishing her the best.
