Police Investigating Gun Call At McDonald's

Employees at an east end McDonald's had some scary moments Tuesday morning after a man who may or may not have been armed with a gun reportedly tried to rob the restaurant.
Toronto Police were called to the Kingston Rd. and Danforth Ave. fast food restaurant at about 6am on reports of an attempted robbery. A short time later Emergency Task Force officers and a K-9 unit arrived on the scene and set up a perimeter.
Officers searched the restaurant for the suspect but couldn't locate him. No shots were fired and no one was hurt in the incident.
"Officers responded within minutes to the scene here and employees had fled the restaurant. There was a concern that the suspect had possibly secreted himself somewhere in the building," said Toronto Police Sgt. Norm Brinn.
"So to ensure the safety of the public and the people that work here, the Emergency Task Force officers secured the building and searched it for the suspect. Suspect was not on scene and we're here to do the investigation."
There was word the man may have escaped out the back door of the restaurant, while employees left through the front door. It appears he left empty-handed. Officers took down the perimeter but stayed on scene to interview shaken employees.
The location of the bandit is unknown at this point, and no description has been released yet.
A nearby public school, Cliffside P.S. on East Haven Dr., was locked down for about an hour as police checked the area and interviewed witnesses.
Investigators now aren't sure if the suspect actually had a gun.
