24/7 , i use the theory that switching the pc on and off all the time does more damage due to the sudden surge of power flying through the machine
my pc is on 24/7 either uploading or downloading

media pc stays on 24-7... others reboot a few times a month

main machine is on 24/7

if im not working, i turn it off... ofcourse...

only time mine is even remotely close to being shut down is restarting after installing/uninstalling shit

I've found its better to leave them running. Just make sure you have a well fanned case. A double fan and well vented case is best.

Turning it on and off everyday isn't good for the motherboard and components because you are surging electricity constantly instead of letting it run at a constant temp and flow.

silly question BUT...when your laptop/PC goes to standby mode, do the messenger programs like GAIM, Miranda IM, ICQ, AIM whatever u use...do they stay connected in standby/sleep mode???? never thought about it b4
