I saw a cool lamp in Indy last weekend, a big martini glass with a big olive -the pimento lit up... I didn't feel like blowing $80 on it though.

yes. i know. the novelty lamp addiction is seriously expensive. i think it rates right up there with cocaine and gambling.

actually, if i could get my hands on a mannequin leg, i'd make my own damned leg lamp. i want a fuggin leg lamp!

i almost got one of them but just about the time i talked myself into getting one, they sold out at wally world. i would like one though and not the dumb rotating pics on a shade one. i want the one with water, bubbles and fakey fish.

i like lava lamps in theory, but they turn to crap too quickly for me to justify the price.

its a dark light generator... kinda like neon, but produces "black light"

Well exercise your creativity and you will save a lot of money -- my friends and I made some badass lamps in college -- we used wood, but you can do it too -- just go to the hardware store and for $3 you can get a powercord, bulb, etc... Then go buy some thick wire -- and you will need some needle-nose plyers and a vise-grip helps also -- I like to work in wire because it's cheap and you can bend just about any shape that comes into your head -- bend the wire straight and the lamp comes out looking clean and geometric if you're into that sortof look -- then for the shade you can use just about anything -- if you want something that looks nice -- go to the art supply store and buy some really quality paper... Get 15 Watt bulbs -- they look good almost anywhere (even without a shade) and at 15Watts you can't even burn the paper -- with paper and wire I could make about 4 cool looking lamps in an hour -- I'd use these lamps to light up my paintings at nightclubs -- then sell the lamps for a few extra $$$ ;)

If I had a bunch of Chinese wire benders I could probably make a shitload of money w/ my lamp designs. I wouldn't pick on the Chinese but they don't buy porn from me...
