I took the liberty of rewriting a portion of the article to correct a few glaring factual errors:

"With Google Video, YouTube, and Bittorrent available, does the world really need another repository of pirated video? In fact, it does, because the well-designed Guba does not leech the usual Web alleys for stolen video. It steals directly from the relatively untapped Usenet, a longstanding collection of thousands of copyright-infringed, user-generated message bases where the truly bottom-feeding media mavens go to illegally reproduce and redistribute images and video they don't own. Guba is a search engine that generates a tidy profit for itself by serving as a front end for illegal redistribution of Usenet media postings.

The engine itself organizes stolen Usenet video and images into the usual buckets (Comedy, Drama, Cartoons, etc.) and sub-categories, so you can illegally download, er...browse the tens of thousands of files on Usenet in a much more economical way than directly paying the content producers who actually own the copyrights to the images. Guba also has an easy upload feature in an attempt to build its own YouTube-like database of copyright infringed clips, which the system transcodes into common formats.

It all works well because of an excellent Guba interface, and a virtually unlimited repository of stolen content."

Fris, it still amounts to unauthorized redistribution for profit...any way you slice it. And results in potential loss of livelihood and revenue for all producers of original content.

And the question has been raised here MANY, MANY times - why should the onus be put on us as producers to have to contact THEM to have it removed? Why must we be forced to be proactive and spend our time and resources policing our federally-protected copyright material?

The logistics of finding out just how much of our stuff is on Guba these days would involve hiring a staff of people to comb through their entire inventory, like looking for a needle in a field of haystacks.
