Whose been to a Record Release Party before?

How was it?

What was cool about it? What wasn't?

Any help/feedback would be appreciated.

I hear in LA, if you aren't in the music business and have nothing to offer people in the music business don't expect too much by going to music industry events.

I was invited by my sister to attend an album release as well as a magazine launch when I was in New Zealand last year. The food was amazing, the entertainment was off the hook and the funniest thing was going there and then turning around and seeing Ron Jeremy. LOL
It was a really impressive party but so it should have been as it was hosted by some poms who own "Top of the Pops" which is a british music show.

Brother n law was our old Band manager also, so got to got to both of his last two album releases, and went to Rascal Flatts debut album party. We played the same venues as they did when they were coming up. Was at Darly Worelys softmore debut too. Think thats all of them. Couple small ones Ive been at down at Sony, but wasnt invited by the artist for those was just friends I had down at Sony that got me the invites. Both were for non country acts. One Christian music, and cant really recall the other. Neither seemed to get very much success.

I goto showcase parties all the time. Bout 1 a month still. My publisher has me goto those just to network for once I start pushing my stuff again. Showcase parties can be odd. A large percentage of the time they get a showcase just because they have a family member or friend backing their financing. They can be really pretty scary. Had one I went to that the guys thought they were the next Montgomery Gentry. The one guy looked like Paul Sr. off American chopper only fatter. lol Music industry is an interesting deal to say the least.

The last release party I went to was Radiohead's Kid A album, and I mostly just went because I was dating a girl who was really into radiohead and thought she would like it and be impressed by the invite.. It was a good time and I ended up discovering that I liked radiohead.

Used to attend a LOT of album release parties, and movie premieres. Mostly enjoyed the free swag 'n shit.

Literally hundreds. Some are nice, some you can't wait to leave. Same faces every time.

Usually the more involved you are with the project/artist/label/producers the more entertaining it is.

There's a difference between official record release parties and "promo parties" called record release parties. Official record release parties only happen in NY LA and Atlanta.

Oh, I forgot to add that the official record release parties are chock full of "Industry people" but the fake ones are full of fans and extra folks "that know folks" as someone else said.

Both have waay hotter bitches than you usually see at regular clubs though.

Lemme tell you I have been going to these things since waay back when Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch had a release party (yeah, it's been a long time in it)... you can't beat the chicks at these things. I rarely go to regular clubs anymore.

depends on what it is, if they're selling tickets then its basically just a concert around the time the album comes out. if its something thats invite only then its a real record release party. both of them can be fun, and either way there should be some hot girls there.
