these tools are cool but it kind of sucks that its making it easier for new competition to create relevant click worthy ads

It seems pretty accurate. I typed "preteen" in the demographics query and it returned the most likely searcher:

Gender: Male 82% likely

Age: 35~49

Judging from the dateline specials it looks about right

Adult/Sexual Content

Microsoft adCenter will not accept advertising on adult keywords.
Advertisements and associated landing pages may not contain sexually explicit content.

Advertising will not be accepted for sites that feature predominantly adult content.

Adult content, if any, within otherwise non-adult sites, must be clearly segregated from other content.

In other words, AdCenter = Mainstream only.
