Hmmm....closest summary I can get in just a few words would be think American football without the padding, prolonged pauses and substitutions and without being able to throw the ball forward.

I know there has to be some rugby players in America. To be honest, every major city in the USA has a rugby team and it is the fastest growing club sport in America.

Potentially more pain and violence in it so it should appeal as in many aspects it's similar to American football.
