I saw a UFO over Las Vegas tonight [PICS]

A bright light moving overhead on a straight path for about three minutes. Looked like a bright star. I figured it was too high to be a plane and too slow to be a satellite.

So I looked it up here and the mystery was solved.

No longer unidentified, my now IFO turned out to be this. Cool as hell. My first time ever seeing it, even though it passes over pretty much daily. The lighting and clear atmosphere were just right to make it quite bright even with all the neon in Vegas.



aka the ISS or International Space Station

Here's the ground track, it passed almost right over us.



Now all I need to do is come up with 20 million and I can be looking down at millions of people looking up at me thinking I'm a UFO.

using 2meters on ham radio , talked to andy thomas
also talked to MIR via packet radio

i think ISS is still doing it , not to sure , but they do take pics of earth as they fly over head and send it down to ham radio operators via slow scan tv

awesome.. yeah I think they are still doing that, I have just never got around to getting my amateur license.

...Thanks for the comments. Any pics I took would have come out as a white blur. I am planning to get a camera mount on a telescope so that will produce some good shots hopefully.

The next good pass will be on July 4. (You just enter in your lat/long on http://heavens-above.com and it tells you what to look for where and when etc) I have a feeling that July 4 won't be the best night to be looking for lights in the sky though.

I've seen the shuttle before docking and after disembarking the space station. First the space station flew over, then a couple minutes later we saw the shuttle.

If the shuttle launches July 1 I won't see it here at home (Los Angeles) - but maybe I'll get to see it when I'm out of the country.

Gravity Probe B makes frequent flyovers...but is not nearly as bright as the space station.

Nope - naked eye. But basically it just looks like a very bright star.
