MySpace Losing Ads Over Porn Stars

I have a feeling this might be the beginning of the end of porn/adult material being allowed on myspace....I will tell you this though, if myspace would create a feature that allowed me to "dump" any user under 18 I would do it on a daily basis

http://www.********.com/read.aspx?ID=17153

Quote:
MySpace.com has quickly become the malt shop for today?s teens -- but, unlike Al?s place in ?Happy Days,? this virtual ?hang out? is also frequented by unsavory characters who are after our kids. What most teens see as just a fun place to connect with friends has become a sexual predator?s and pornographer?s playground.

As The New York Times reported on May 27, the site?s content has become so skanky that even some corporate advertisers, including Weight Watchers and T-Mobile, are either pulling their ads from MySpace or threatening to do so.

The pages of sex-film stars like Jenna Jameson and Tera Patrick are quickly becoming popular with America?s teens as evidenced by the thousands of ?friends? -- other MySpace users who ask for full access to a user?s page. Those pages, in turn, link to the stars? own homepages, which are often replete with explicit pornographic images.

Some of the stars? ?friends? are as young as 14. Others are undoubtedly younger -- one need only state their age, no ID or proof required. Most of the linked porn sites post a simple warning that says something like, ?Click here to enter if you?re over 18,? and that?s it.

oh wow, it gets better

The truth is that pornographers aren't content to exist only in their own sick little corner of the Internet: They've got to troll for new victims. And they do it by wading into what amounts to an Internet kiddie pool and snagging innocent kids. That's why your child's e-mail inbox is constantly filled with spam porn. It's why sites such as MySpace have been infiltrated by perverts. It's why you've got to be worried about what's going on within the safety of your own home if you have unlimited, unmonitored Internet access.

I kinda like how we're the bad guys because myspace doesn't police it's users, thats like yelling at liquor companies because a bar doesn't card it's patrons.

pfft market, if we've learned nothing from living in America it's that it's always somebody else?s problem, never that of the parent. God forbid you actually check in on your kids once and a while to see what they are up to.. fuck no, let somebody else do it for your lazy ass. "it's video games fault!" "It's the rap music! It gives the kids the brain damage!" "It's martha stewart! Her sexy styling skills made little samantha become a slut!". There is NO personal responsibility in this country, there hasn't been for a long time now.

The question I ask is :

Whats the difference between a girl promoting her adult site and a band advertising their songs that talk about killing cops, beating people up, spending all their money on "bling" and fucking each and every girl they get their hands on?

Its not the direct access to porn thats affecting kids behaviour or warping their minds, its all the other junk they are exposed to and are told that its cool to idolize.

Ya gotta love puritans when they decide to wage war. Logic and truth are always the first victims

When major advertisers start pulling their ads, MySpace will think real hard about why.

I don't find much fault with that article. Myspace DOES bring the two worlds too close together. There's too many underage wanna be hotties taking sexy shots and getting legal men in potential trouble on that site.

From the logic (or lack thereof) of the article, google should be restricted because kids can search for "tera patrick" and get to her website. Or better yet, parents should restrict access to the keyboard because kids can type in terapatrick . com to get to her website.

I bet whoever wrote that article is a porn addict...

its kids!
they are trouble makers.
they should be locked up in an institution until they are old enough for the army.
then only let them out when they are at least 39 or so.
that would straighten them out.
they get too much freedom, and that is the root of all evil.

My brother is 13. He asked me how to change the background on his myspace. I said, "I don't think mom wants you having myspace." And he asked my mom. And she said, "No, you don't need to be on myspace. You can stick to meeting friends at school and talking to them at lunch or on the phone." And he said, "Okay." He doesn't have myspace anymore. How hard is it to control what kids do online?

Most parents allow their children to have high speed internet access attached to a computer either in a private area of the house or right in their bedroom behind a closed door. This is the worst sort of absentee parenting. They think that the internet is the new TV, babysitting their kids while they do whatever they want without having to deal with their pesky offspring.

The parents are then shocked to find out that little johnny is using the webcam they bought him to whack off for cash to a bunch of horny old men that like 13 year old boys.

If you children are under 18, the computer should always be in a public area of the house, and area that the parents are likely to be in. Children under 18 should not have webcams. Parents should be aware of what their children are doing online, and so on.

Myspace should be blocked faster than porn sites, it is way more dangerous for chidlren.

As parents of two schoolage daughters, we take a very proactive role in monitoring what the girls do online. At home they're only allowed online when we're in the vicinity, and we occasionally check to see what they're doing on the computer.

However, lately they've been going down to the public library and using the computers to work on their MySpace webpages. They claim a LOT of their friends are on MySpace, and they feel left out of the loop if we don't allow them to maintain their own MySpace pages. So we do. But my wife keeps track of what's going on as much as she can - and we've had MANY discussions with the kids about the potential risks and hazards of it all. We've done about as much as humanly possible to pass along our own extensive experience with the web to educate them about the possible dangers.

I have little sympathy for parents who fail to take responsibility for educating their kids about the web. Its a component of modern life, plain and simple - and fits under the same category as 'street proofing' in my books.

This is one of the reasons I would never look for models on Myspace... How can you prove they are old as they say they are etc? Even just arranging to meet someone from there who is underage, even if they're lynig and you don't know it, can mean a WORLD of trouble.

If myspace gets enough heat from the advertisers and the media, they'll definitely do something about it. Most likely to the detriment of those who profit off of the site.
