did you watch it Brad?? I love the orgy scene, but I'd definitely say it's a little more than 'just a porno' - to have BIG names like that in there, the acting is quality, the storyline actually exists

and it's not just gonzo porn in any way

I watched it probably 20 years ago. Didn't finish it, it just totally grossed me out. The ring in the ass, the filling the guy up with wine then splitting his gut open, etc......It wasn't a porn movie by any stretch of the imagination to me.

One of my favorite movies. I paid more than three times the normal price to have the unedited director's cut imported from the UK when they released it. Truly a groundbreaking movie in many ways, and one of Malcolm McDowells more amazing performances.

It's a historical film based on an actual historical character. Think Roman debauchery, now think Roman debauchery committed by a man who thinks he is a god, and has everyone else convinced of it too, and they will obey him without question.

The "porn" part comes at the very end of the flick... it's like a 30-minute orgy.

I watched it a few years ago when I was invited by a gal to go catch it with her after work on Sunset...

I still remember my plea to get out of work early that day: "A chick wants me to go watch a porno with her, boss... can I get out early?"

and I agree, it's definitely very graphic, even for todays standards on some of it

Fascinating movie, and amazing acting. I don't know how some people kept straight faces, but it was really well acted and portrayed. A little bit Clockwork Orange, a little bit Alexander, with some good 70s style nudity to round out the equation.

It was a very costly movie, and very wierd. Probably captured Caligula's personality as he was crazy....on a personal note....first movie I ever rubbed one out to. no joke.

The Romans did indeed become fucked up. They perfected a lot of shit, invented some, stole and improved others and were the worlds largest super power. Hell no cities would ever reach their size again for a thousand years.

Yet most of them had gone severely mentally ill, due to their facination and rampant use of lead. Between that and them fucking up their own rivers they literally could of stayed rulers of the world.

BTW Nero was way more fuckered up than Caligula.

Yeah, the porn angle was an afterthought and if you pay attention to the edits you can clearly see they were independent of the original movie, to the point of almost comical. Where some "unrated" movies get an R-rating by cutting scenes out, Caligula was an R-rated movie that Bob Guccione added porn scenes to and created the "unrated" version..

I'd like to see the R-rated version one day to see if anything more than actual sex scenes are missing.
