is the term "eventually" used in similar meaning as "possibly" ?

the word "eventually" ( in Italian "eventualmente", in Polish "ewentualnie" etc... ) has similar meaning to "possibly" but in the English or American-english, "eventually" means "in the end" or "sooner or later"

has it been ever used in the other ( ~ "possibly" or "perhaps" ) meaning too ?

Eventually means that something will happen, just not at a predetermined time.

Possibly means something may or may not occur.

need a login to oed.com (or something similar) which should detail the derivation of the word. I'd be interested to know.

Eventually is a term used by many married english speaking males

" yes hunny I will eventually get around to fixing the toilet"

possibly is a far more heinous word for the married man and evokes doubt

" darling did you take that washing out before"....."Possibly"

Scientists use eventuality

i.e.
contingency, contingence
a possible event or occurrence or result

You can say "eventual" in english aswell (with the meaning "possibly" as in swedish and many other languages), but its a very old-fashioned way of using it.

Definition and *usage* are 2 different things. While the word "eventually" *means* sooner or later, and the word "possibly" *means* maybe not at all, I have observed that many people will *use* the word eventually even when they are not sure something will happen, or because they want to preserve uncertainty in the mind of another person. Likewise, I have seen "possibly" used by people even when the truth is DEFINITELY -- - that's just being coy --

^^what 2houseplague said is correct

in it's strictest definition though, and what you should use to avoid confusion:
possibly = may or may not happen
eventually = WILL happen at some later time
