Lifetime Membership - What do you think?

Is it worthwile to offer a lifetime membership option? And if yes, how much should it cost? Could it be refinanced by upsells ? Any thoughts are welcome.

Thx

Stef

personally, I don't think it's very profitable. sure, at first you might get a huge amount of people buying since for a low price they will get a membership that will never expire, but that will slow down after awhile (maybe). Nevertheless, without a reccuring income it would create much more work for you on order to actually make a profit.

then again, what the hell do I know. I've never ran a pay site. I just don't see this as a profitable thing. It will only benefit the surfer and not the owner(s) of the site(s).

unless the site is a total piece of shit and the surfers won't get much than ya, it may work, but now you will have surfers charging back. I say avoid this idea.

i think it won't work i mean do you plan having your site up forever? and its going to cost a bomb for lifetime membership to make it worth your while

I think it could work, some programs are obviously offering it, but I'd like to know under which conditions they do offer it.

Lifetime may be too much, but a one year has been working pretty good for me. I have seen from several places that retention for solo girl sites tends to be around a month and a half. So we set a price point for the year at $99.95 making it a good value. Sold a couple last night (and that's with my 1500 uniques).

Hugs,
Jen

That is the point you should be making.

once they are joined and you got your money update it for a 2 years to make it ethical, but then leave. As long as their membership works forever then you are keeping within the law.

But the thing is, will surfers fall for it.

Ive seen plenty of lifetime keys to get into sites and thought what a load of bollocks, they just want my money.

It is crucial you advertise it properly.

Like put

trial 1.99
month 29.99
quaterly 59.99
and
lifetime 199.99

as they would just see another scam.

Noone would trust it anyway -
A> Whose lifetime? The lifetime of the site? What happens when the model quits, wants the site down, etc.? What if you just stop doing adult stuff?

B> Affiliates probably would not dig it either.

A way around this could be a 12 month membership that extends into a lifetime of the site membership after the 12 months have gone by. That way the longest time the site would have to be around is 12 months, since there is no liabilty in regards to the free extension.

With the short retention most paysites have, why would the affiliate be against getting more money?

True - bascially a year membership, which is "eternally extended", as a loyalty reward.

True there...depending upon the "deal" to the consumer. Like you described above might make it appealing to affiliates.

I think its a bad idea. Without a limit on the period, at any time if you can no longer maintain the site for one reason or another you could end up giving back the money and then some due to chargebacks. If you promise a lifetime membership you are just asking for trouble down the road. It would be better to just offer a full year membership or if you really want a big chunk of change offer a few years, but make sure there is a limit on it

Better plan on being up and running for life then if you don't want to see chargebacks.
