    Why does italy wear blue?

              Blue I thought was there away strip. I thought white was their main colour but because USA was in white Italy put blue on.

                      The Italian national team wear blue because it is the colour of Savoia, the ruling house of Italy from 1861 to 1946. Until the end of the second world war, the Italian flag always had the Savoia coat of arms in the centre, and it was only after the family were overthrown, and the Italian Republic established in 1946, that the plain tricolor was adopted as the national flag.

                          Wrong. Italian flag is red-white-green, check your pasta package, lol.
                          That's their tradition, all italian national teams are dressed in white and blue and called "azzurri", it's been like that since I know them, Probably from the sky or the sea, something like that.

                              their nickname is Azzurri ("sky blues") and they used to wear white shirts with shorts from each players club back in the early 1900's.. think they changed to azzurri in 1934 (but not 100% sure) ..
