only every 4 years because club football has more dominance over the countries and clubs have the money

clubs do not like their players playing for the country, apart from the experience part.

They could get injured, more easily poached by another country, if they play outstandingly.

It is also hella hard to stage it, this is the same scale as the olympics, each country that hosts often builds a huge new stadium.

plus it makes it so much more worth waiting for every 4 years

there are also huge tournements in the 2 years between

but to your questions clubs dont want their players playing too much incase they get injured for their country and clubs have the money. Because the worldcup is not just for a month, there is leading up to it games which often disrupt club seasons.

had to check some sources and the reason (it seemes) was the international travel was not easy back when the cup started in south america in 1930 (uruguay)

ps.. the first games in 1930 was actually won by france and usa..
