Cybernet Expo: A differnet view.

Forgive me for interrupting the lovefest but I have a few comments on the "show".

First, as memory serves the Cybernet Expo was held at the same hotel last year. The same hotel with the same horrific service, separation of attendees across two lodging areas split by a large parking lot and the same facility issues such as faulty plumbing, musty rooms, etc... Why was this location chosen again? Several people made negative comments after the last Cybernet and despite all the assurances given that corrections would be made; the hotel was worse this year.

As I see it the sponsors who rallied to make last minute changes in venue and or event deserve major credit in pulling their events off. If I were one of them I'd be demanding a refund on my sponsorship; especially if I were the happy hour sponsor CE, who's yellow paper cutout "drink tickets"; did not even include their program name. Rest assured they had Cybernet Expo on them however. Additionally, the attendee's deserve a few accolades for pulling of this "show". In stead of throwing a fit over the monster which Cybernet themselves created by not changing locations everyone made the best of it by finding other activities away from the "show", as the group I was with did, or just grinning and bearing the ridiculous rules should they decide to stay round the hotel.

Cybernet turned out to be a good time but the only credit I can give the organizers is Dave's trickery to get me to pickup my badge. After waiting 10 minutes for the bartender at the sponsored happy hour to calculate the cost of two beers Dave asked me if I was preregistered (which I was) and insinuated that it wouldn't have taken as long if I'd picked up my badge. Wow...how my badge would have helped him calculate the cash I was using to pay is beyond me, but I digress. Strangely enough, the next time the colleague I was with attempted to order from the same bartender he was told they couldn't serve anyone without a badge. Well done, Dave.

Those of you who know me know that I'm a very laid back guy who takes all issues in stride and I honestly had a good time at this "show" as long as I was away from the communist rule of the hotel but I think it's completely wrong for the organizers to come out of this smelling like a rose and not making amends for the issues they created. Jay put a nice spin on APN Phil's cancelled thread but it was nothing more than a spin.

I'm off my soapbox and for those of you ready to type "if you don't like it, don't go"..you read my mind.

John

C'mon, man. All I saw was Dave, Fay amd LAJ running around trying to hold it all together. It's obvious they were blindsided by the hotel bullshit and did everything in their power to hold it together and give everybody a good time and their money's worth. That could happen to anybody. I commend them for how well things went off in spite of it all. It ain't right you should bash them. --

You don't run something like that for 8 years without knowing what you're doing and being loved by all. I give you, it was a downer to have all that shit to worry about. But those who were there last year know we almost had a storm hit while we were there. They had us ready to evacuate and shit, no joke. My point is you can't blame hard-working people for acts of God.

John,

Thank you for bringing up the point that our drink tickets did not have any branding on them and that they were "cut outs"

The story has it..

PornDollar and MeatCash had the bar.

MeatCash backed out for their personal reasons and was left with Porndollar getting the bar to itself.

At the last minute, I was told as I am sure the rest of the sponsors were, that we could not have anything adult related in our banners.. Nudity, wording.. even our name couldn't adult related.

So, since PornDollar was the bar sponsor and I have the word "Porn" in my name.. I was told I could not have my banner hung.. But was "OhMobile" was ok.. Well.. Mobile wasnt what I wanted to promote.

Since I have involvement with Cybererotica, CECash and URentDVDs being non adult names.. That was my only option.

PornDollar was sent to the seminar room.

To be honest.. Deep down I am pissed that my baby, the last few years of my life did not get the exposure that I wanted. But.. Since my life now involves CECash.. It didnt get to me that much.

Think of it as a 3 birds with one stone.

Jay and Fay made do with what they had to work with.

I got 3 companies exposure, and overall.. I hope everyone remembers who bought them drinks

I will sponsor this even again. This was my 2nd year in a row, but only if the rules apply like other shows we have.

CECash is a great option in your lineup to use as a sponsor...so why wasn't the name on the coupons?

You're handling this remarkably well. I'd be outraged if I were in your position.

I don't think the hotel environment was an act of God, it could have been forecast. We didn't sponsor the show because it was held at the same hotel as last year.

I felt like Bob really went out of his way to make sure everyone had a good time. However, Dave coming down on people about badges is like parking attendants handing out parking tickets after a tsunami.

Well.. Not having any name on the drink ticket is truly a pisser..

But not having PornDollar on the bar was what really burns.

Like you John.. I am a laided back person. I was outraged.

But like I said.. I had other options to me.

So I just let it go.

I prepaid. So I have no clue what down for people who purchased "at the box office", so to speak. I see your point about tsunami parking tickets, but I also have a strong dislike for looters.

I hear ya Cory. My reaction was a little emotional. I really love Fay and Dave, and I guess I saw a different side of them when I was down there. There was a lotta pressure on them, and every mouth produced complaints and "tsuriss" (Yiddish for stress). When I walked into that room I was like "Anything I can do to help?" I like that my friends treat me like somebody who can help out in a pinch, rather than someone who is going to add to the many burdens. The exchange sounds like a totally understandable clash of opposing frustrations in a moment when there was a lotta "tsuriss" in the house, compounded by the presence of white people with guns -- -- Dave's a good guy, if he offended I'm sure it was an accident. So, now that makes 4 cents --

No worries, this all makes for good debate. Hopefully they recover for next year.

I can't imagine the situation was easy.

Hats off for the effort they made.. i had a GREAT time although the event was spent off campus for the most part. Had allot of great opportunities to make friends and build relationships.

Seems to me that's what the shows are about. :2cents:

For those of you who missed the things that went down previous to the show:

We returned because we were promised all the rooms, banners in the courtyard, complete cooperation, and more staff, to solve any problems from the year before. We even had sponsored carts for transporation between the buildings - (great idea that was also sabatoged)

It was court ordered that we closely check ages, have wristbands, and not allow anyone who didn't have a wristband to be served or participate any any of our activities. Very sorry if we offended anyone, but we could not give the hotel any reason to come back on us. We have well over $100,000 invested in this and we just can't take any chances, as this is far from over.

Here is what we got instead of the cooperation we were promised:

As far as I know Jay has announced there will be legal action againt the hotel.
The hotel changed ownership since the contract was originally signed and tried to get out of the event.
Since that was not possible it appears they made it as hard as they could on the adult industry.

Not once was my ID checked. That arguement holds no water.

The thread you just linked is bs. You guys need to step up and accept a bit of responsibility for the debacle. I understand (and agree) that the hotel went overboard but if I have a vendor who interrupts the business of one of my affiliates it is my business to make amends to the affiliate not the vendors.

The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior. You should have seen problems on the horizon with that hotel and I certainly see them for future Cybernet "shows".

John

We have a habit of bad behavior, trashing rooms, and acting like high school kids in pubilc. Combine this with scanitly clad women and curious looking men in women's bathing suits and it's no wonder hotels aren't excited to have us invade their space.

Want to be treated properly? Get a room at a different hotel.

productivity went up a notch with this purchase ... just hope that once I make the swap it's all good
