Blog Spam...

I get like 200 automated blogspam comments on my blog every day all for cialis and viagra and shit. I've heard SEGuru is spamming blogs to get listings.

If I every met the person behind this I would personally strangle them.

I like having interactivity on my blog but sorting through 200 fake comments a day gets annoying.

What do you do to cut down on this shit?

Me too - although way more damn mobile phone "deals"

Past month or so has been really bad although it has lulled slightly in the past few days for some reason.

some goold filters out there but i doubt it will work most of the time and youw ould end up baby sitting it alot

i guess hire out the grunt work in exchange for a listing or something

i was given some great advice on this

if you're using wordpress - add a few words to the ban list for comments ie cialis in your case.

Consider putting an OCR on the blog and it should eliminate a big chunk of them.

Jay - there are plenty of automated programs out there to spam blogs - and I doubt SEGuru (if hes doing it at all) is the only one LOL - if you require a signin - and like was mentioned an ocr it should cut down on it alot - and add to your mailing list for a newsletter - see everything has a silver lining

Try the plugin I posted. It's free, you just need a free API key from WP.com. Real users hate OCRs and there is no blacklist of words or urls to update. Plus it learns from the whole WP community virally real fast. The only way it won't work is if you are the only blog the person is spamming, which isn't very likely.

Don't know about the recent versions of WP, but the earlier versions this did not help at all

Should be Options --> Discussions and there is a blacklist at the bottom of the page . . . at least on the versions I use
