Received My First Trojan. BEWARE

i was surfing some websites and noticed one that was loading really slow.
i looked down at my cpu and watched the red light blink like crazy as if something was being downloaded. i didn't get an alert from my anti-virus programs counterspy or pc-cillin. so i shut my computer down and went to bed for a few hours. i got up at about 3am and booted up. counterspy did an automatic scan i guess which is set at about 3am. when it was done it told me the Dropper Microjoin.A was downloaded to my computer. i rushed and changed all the passwords to my email accounts. after i did so, i went to check my emails later in the day and noticed 4 emails back to back in 2 email accounts. i opened 1 message and went to scroll down and clicked a white spot in the email by mistake. it took me to some page and asked if i wanted to download something. i disconnect my internet and clicked no and scanned my computer again. no virus! so i deleted all the emails and thought that was it.
i went into my ebay account first thing this morning because i had 8 auctions that closed yesterday. i went into my ebay account and noticed someone deleted all the sold auctions i was working on. so i went into every account i have online and changed all the passwords. i'm now keeping tabs on all of my bank accounts and joined one of those credit report agencies to watch for credit fraud.

if i didn't get up at 3 in the morning to boot up, i don't think i would have known i had a trojan until i did a scan again. maybe once every 3 days.

moral of this story...scan your computers at least twice a day. avoid the headaches.

lol twice a day ? thats way too much
if you keep your os up to date you wont have a problem..

I dont run any protection (basically ), and never get virii

You shouldnt need to scan your computer twice a day , you must have other problems like an old o.s.

Dont run any protection , keep your system up to date and go to www.antivirus.com free online scan every now and then.

this sounds more like a friend of yours or someone with physical access to your computer.. hackers dont take the time to hack you , keylog you , and then just erase some ebay shit lol , if they went through all that trouble your password would have already been changed, unless they are super duper smartypants and making shill accounts. but that sounds unlikely , why not just take your money

it's possible to put code on your page which will disable anti-virus programs.
updates are always automatic with counterspy. anytime theres an update a little window pops-up and tells you they are updating. it's always up to date.
shit happens. i still plan to scan twice a day anyway. some have more to lose then others.

Say what?

You must not surf much porn.... Think we know better.

I use firewalls soft and hard, spybot, adaware and the rest. Still fall victum to attack now and then.

What OS are you running? You wouldn't be a MAC user? Most of us fools have MS on the desktop. XP for me - with all the SPs and updates.

dropper mircrojoin.a can be placed on your computer without you knowing it.
also...it's possible to get account info and not mess with someones account.

You do realize smokey is 'Mr web browser exploit'...

Just install the security updates for your OS and you won't have these problems.

Sure, it's quite old so you probably fell victim to a pre sp1 exploit that was used to install it....

Dropper.Microjoin.A opens a backdoor on TCP ports 1180 and 1167. The infected machine can then be used by remote attackers to perform other malicious activities.

i use a nat firewall on my router , only open the ports that i need which is only a handful
i don't run IE or outlook express , instead i use Firefox and thunderbird
never run any programs that you are unsure about
keep upto date on patches
close down un used services in 2k/xp

i do netstat checks every so often just to check up if anything is trying to open ports , the only time i have been infected by trojan was when netbus hit the scene many years ago , infectd myself to see what netbus was all about

also Microjoin.A is an exe , an exe can't self execute it needs someone to click on it to execute thus the name TROJAN , it could come disguised as anything
