TGP Galleries - thumbnail sizes and picture sizes?

Whats a good image size and thumbnail size for TGP galleries to be accepted these days? Are thumbnails of 180x120 and images of 1024(wide or high) ok?

Also, whats a good thumbnailed that automatically resizes and also crops images to a specific size like 120x180 instead of just resizing them proportionately?

What image sizes? Is there anything like a too big image? Is 1024x800 an ok image size?

Go with 100-120 x 120-180 thumbs and images with min 600 and max 800 on the shorter size. Keep them around 50-70kb, otherwise they will eat a lot of bw.

Try to make the big image at least 600pix wide on the short side. And for the thumbnails I'd say at least 120 on the short side would be good (~21600 pix²). I've also used thumbnails with a size up to 300x200 for TGP galleries, it all depends how it suits your layout.
Don't make them too small, cause content is IMHO the biggest selling factor on your gallery, so make sure that the surfer actually sees the quality of your content right when he loads the gallery

Thanks. Any suggestions on which program can automatically resize and crop images to a specific size like 120x180, instead of just resizing them?

Arles is great for that job.

In regards to thumbnails, in general it's a good idea to make them with the same aspect ratio as the fullsize pics. Some reject you when the thumbs are not. Not a biiig deal though.

Thumbsizes, anywhere from 140x140->160x160 and/or 100x140->120x180 are good choices. 7kb-10kb filesize.

Fullsize pics I'd say at least 400 on the shortest side, 480 is best, with 600 min. on the longest side. 480x720 or 720x480 works well. Filesize 45-60kb each. At least 25kb but highly recommended to make them >45kb.

Thanks. Only many galleries I see use thumbnails in the same aspect ratios, as it makes the galleries look more attractive. So I thought I should design that way too..
