Soon the server gerbils will control "SIG TOO BIG!"

Doing a lot of testing on this, but I really like the feature set of vBulletin 3.6. Right now it's just in the Beta 1 release, but from the looks of things it will go final in probably 30 to 45 days. When the code goes final and is fully released for production, it will be put in place here on GFY within 48-hours. There's a bunch of fixes and new features in 3.6 that I've already got custom code in place right now, but there is one feature that has been much needed and for a long time.

In the past, signature file policing has pretty much been a manual process. And that's always been a big problem. With 3.6, the server gerbils get full control of that. If your signature is too big, if it contains too many images, if the text size is out of control, the board software will spot it, and kill it. If existing sigs don't follow the rules, and to the absolute letter, they DON'T ever get displayed.

click on this image to see it full size and the control it has.

Can you set it per user so that paid advertisers don't have a problem with Sig Too Big?

The "sig killer" code I talk about is not in place here, YET. I am testing vB 3.6 on my development server right now. The code all looks VERY stable, and I can see the code going "GOLD" (released for production use) in 45 days or less.

I will be creating a "SPONORS" sub group for the GFY sponsors and their "immediate" and direct employees. The signature rules ARE configurable BY GROUP. I'm writing some code that will check that group against the new banner rotation script that will also be in place soon. It's all going to be nice.

it'd be nice if you eased up on the image size requirements a little bit... 120x60 is just too damn small. Even NoWhErE's little animated sig is larger than that at 152x98 (not trying to get you in trouble buddy, just making a point)

those little animated gifs give the board some personality, I'd hate to see them all vanish.

Very simple question, do the same rules apply to all of us...AND
Juicy D Links and the rest of the SigWhores?

Seems to me the last time you tried to enforce the rules, LensMan gave JDL a pass to keep on spamming his HUGE SIG

I don't think that Lensman realized at the time, just how stupid a size that sig was, and I don't think he saw the many times and threads that were highly insulting and threatening to the sponsors that have been here on GFY for years. I did talk this over, with Marketing, that is in charge of GFY. And after that, I don't care if someone has 1 post or 1,000,000. If I was to see that shit again someone will get their account deleted, and not just banned.

And that's not even including what I will legally do to those that DDoS my servers after someone gets childish over such things.

it's pretty trivial to get around the new feature in vbulletin 3.6, but i suppose it will stop those that are technically inept...

Shhh don't tell him :P

But luckily for me, if TD ever does ban my sig, I have the know-how to resize it. I just haven't bothered with it cause I don't have the time and I doubt my sig bothers anyone

yeah that's my point, I don't think slightly larger images like that bother anyone. @ around 150x100 most animated gifs look decent but anything smaller than that and they usually become too small to discern anything. I know because I've tried resizing a few to the 120x60 and they end up being unviewable.

this would never happen but a score based system for sigs would be cool. you could give users points or negative points based on your opinion of them and then set a threshold. so if you click that say, UserA is a postwhore worth nothing and so do a few others and they end up with a score of 1, no more sigs from them if you threshold is 5. or if people post good posts you could award them points. seems to work for slashdot. hell while i'm talking about pipe dreams a score based ignore system would be even better but thats getting ahead of myself
