DUDE I know for a FACT that that song didn't become a top song in the US nor was it on MTV until AFTER I moved to the current area where I live. I moved here in 1993 which is the 90's last time I checked. Doesn't matter when it was released it matters when it was a hit.

You're right that it wasn't a hit in the US until 1993. After appearing in the film "Benny & Joon" it started to get alot of US airplay.

But I lived in Australia in 1989. And it was the Number 1 single there for five weeks (February 18, 1989 - March 18, 1989). I bought a CD called something like "Summer Hits of 89" that had 500 Miles on it (Australian summer being Dec-Feb).
