Is it plausible that the architects (and the world) had no familiarity yet with this symbol?

"Formally commissioned in January 1944... more

If it was commissioned in 1944, construction would have begun at least 2-3 years prior...maybe more.

Weird.

Why so determined to see the foreign on American soil --

Symbols transcend the cultures and geographies that originated them. They become dislocated (liberated) from the histories that conveyed them into the present. I see nothing but a few line-strokes arranged in a pleasant geometry --

You know I love you you sicko...

"The swastika (from Sanskrit hahaha2360;hahaha2381;hahaha2357;hahaha2360;hahaha 2381;hahaha2340;hahaha2367;hahaha2325; svastika) is an equilateral cross with its arms bent at right angles in either left-facing (hahaha21325;) or right-facing (hahaha21328;) direction. The swastika is a holy symbol in Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. In the West, it is most widely known and used as a symbol of Nazism. It is traditionally oriented so that a main line is horizontal, though it is occasionally rotated at forty-five degrees. The Hindu version is often decorated with a dot in each quadrant."

Now, is it?

Edited because of the hahahasss - - - - Go look for yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

Saw the bombers heading to bomb the swastika

You could very well be right. The symbol has been around for centuries and its original meaning(s) have become perversed by its association with Nazism.

There is a hotel in Las Vegas that from the same kind of satellite view looks like a swastika. I want to say it's the Imperial Palace, but I can't quite remember. My father would know for sure. I couldn't find any pictures unfortunately.
