On a serious note, it doesn't really matter. What matters most is the operating system when it comes to reliability.

intel has proven to be more stable for years.
amd never had that point of view, they just started,
but the amd opterons (64bits) are decent, the bad things is you have much compatibilitie issues.
btw, amd is cheapper enough to try

I use many of both... AMD is cheaper for the same performance..

Now, reliability... Dell will start offering PowerEdge server with AMD chips ...

I would go with AMD. They generate less heat than intels and heat is the worst thing for any machine.

You do know we're in 2006 and not 1999 right?

Fuck AMD and Intel both. Cyrix all the way, baby!

(OK, just kidding, before you all flame me).

My next box will be a Xeon. I like AMD chips except for the K6-3 I had a long while ago, it caused alot of problems and I never have fully forgiven AMD for that. I will give AMD another try on a non-crtitical box.

I hate Intel for lots of reasons that I am too lazy to spell out here.

actully amd opterons run coolers and less voltage than xeons.. though the new LV xeons give it a run for their money.....

ignore semperon and celerons at all cost unless its not a very intensive/demanding site/service

Depends on what you're doing.

If it's just run-of-the-mill web design stuff, email, etc, then either will do you just fine.

If you're doing video editing in particular, I can tell you that the Intel dual core P4s do run substantially faster than the equivalent AMD 64s. And the AMDs seem to be less forgiving about heat as well, but if you have a good CPU cooler, then either should work fine for most applications.

AMD all the way. They don't have heat issue compared to their Intel equivalents. No stability issues. Many people here stuck in '99

Of course Conroe will be out in a month or 2 and things could change dramatically

Haven't seen AMD's asnswer to that yet though. Will be an interesting summer for us geeks
