The 1-and-change sideways G that the Z06 can handle is indeed impressive. Not up to the 1.5 of the Lotus Exige maybe, but pretty good :)

Damn that Atom looks like fun. That video also reminds me how much I miss seeing "Top Gear" every week. BTW Caterham's CSR manages 60mph in 3.1 seconds and 1.25G cornering: pretty good stats and a lot fewer bugs in the teeth than with the Atom. A shame it's only available as a kit car in the US and an expensive one at that.

Just can't justify spending $50,000 on transport.

should've gotten the SAAB, Jaguars are only bought in pairs, you need the second one for spares

the real insight in to corvettes is the fact that the corvette is a 'mass produced factory' car, not a 'hand made exotic' and an everyday driver too . . I have a stock c5 and that car hauls ass from 0-130 which is the most I'll go around LA . . . at a light, when the light turns green I can doing the speed limit by the time I'm through the intersection with out and drama at all . . just a smooth fast acceleration, no burning rubber, nothing but . . . whoa . . . I'm gone . . . And the vette is a low-end monster, generally shifts about 2K on the tach . . At 2.5K I'm going 95 mph and the damn car doesn't even really get excited until about 3.5-4K . . . And I didn't have to spend 200K . . Only about 45K

good luck finding someone who paid $100k+ more for a different car to admit that this is a better performance machine though :1orglaugh

I wouldn't say out perform, but I'm sure its insanely good. The only problem is that it's too common.

Ferrari could drop prices on a 430 to $100K if they wanted, but then the brand would be ruined and everyone would have one.

Rolex could do the same, but then it wouldn't be so luxurious.

If GM made the interior nicer, they could jack the price of that thing 70K and it would be considered a true exotic.

Because these things will never happen, the z06 will never even be in the same market as the true exotics. No one will ever be deciding between a z06 and a Ferrari/Lambo/whatever.

Post was kind of off topic, but I just felt like ranting. Btw, z06 is uglier :2 cents:

I wouldnt count on it. a 1000hp corvette has about .24 horsepower per pound, while the motorcycle has .45 horses per pound. add a 200 lb rider/driver and those numbers become .25 and .29 respectively. that means there is a bit of a horse power advantage for the bike...however, turbo powered cars have incredibly flat torque curves with high amounts of torque.

This would probably be a close race, but with proper tuning, the corvette could probably add 100+ more horses and a lot more torque. of course, that's just my :2 cents:

You're absolutely right, but for most people the reason they would choose the exotic over the vette is the same reason a wealthy lady would overpay for a handbag. Prestige rather than personal satisfaction.

Not to say that there aren't people who have held a genuine interest in the brand as a 'dream car' for many years and would like to see their dreams fulfilled - and for these type of cars there are no doubt many that fit that category.

The Ferrari definitely has more style than a Z06 IMO. Lambo's look like little wedge shaped doorstops to me (I like the Countach and more vintage models). It's all a matter of personal preferance though. Porsche purists are probably ridiculing the Cayman, though personally I like it's styling over that of 911's.

nice but what about riced up supras or skylines?

check it out some of these are 1000+BHP for much less:

1) There are plenty of cars that outperform the Z06

2) a car isn't just power and handling...the building materials, features, etc of the Z06 are a fucking joke...

3) by that logic (cheap is good) everybody would be driving Chevrolet and Fiat's rigth?

btw the Z06 he posted isn't the new one and drives like shit ;)

this thread sounds more like a poor man's argument...tskk tskk

Gotta love the new z06! The 03's really get me goin aswell!

smack 06-04-2006 01:07 PM

i want to see them pull those times without slicks.

hehe. sometime next year i should be reaching for low 11's on street tires. :glugglug

and my car only cost about half as much as those vettes.

I don't know about that. I have Super Charged 01 Z06 that is holding up nicely, handles great, and runs with the best of them. I am not poor I just like the car. Easy to tweak and even at 680 hp I still get 27 MPG riding around town.

I like the Cayman too. It's similar, but fresh.

well the exotics can all be had with custom interiors, high grade materials etc., however when comparing the reliabilty of a mass produced car from GM to finicky exotic cars that seem to spend much of their time in repair shops the build quality leans back toward the corvette. they simply have more research data available because there are more of them on the road, so they become more refined and more reliable than the exotics could ever aspire to.

the red one is a C5. the black one is a C6, the newer model. there is supposed to be a night and day difference between the two
