Where would you invest $100,000?

Where would you safely invest it, index tracker or similiar?

You are in the UK. I would invest it in a 3 bedroom starter house not flat.

Depends - is it an "extra" $100K or something you might need to use to pay bills with in the next year or so? A few years ago I dropped some $$$ into tax liens and recently sold a few off that have kept me able to go to school and not work for the last 6 months (and for a while after that ;) ) and I plan on reinvesting some back into more tax liens. These are land only, no buildings.

I've also stuck some away at emigrant.com and hsbc.com and I'm playing with a few grand over at prosper.com

If it's something you won't need for a while, I'd use it to buy some rental property.

hey man, what's your net worth and how much market knowledge do you have?

I know a guy that just started a hedge fund a month ago...registered with and all with the SEC. Not sure if there's any more spots...there's a 100 max investor limimation.

the guy's briliant, he owns a lan center that is making him crazy amount of money and he's doing stock trading for fun...but last year just playing around, he returned 100% year end and I believe he made over a million dollars just trading...so it's not like he traded $500 worth of stocks and got lucky and doubled it.

if you're interested, send me a icq at 38111362, actually, anyone that is interested in making a great investment and have a networth of 1.5 million let me know...get a spot before they're all sold out. if you don't know what a hedge fund is, i'd suggest you google it...there are risk, since he's new to managing large amount of funds, he may not be able to return 100%, but who knows?

2nd mortgages on property up here in Canada, 10% returns with usually a lender fee associated ($1000+) + the investment is very low risk considering you have a lien on the property you're lending for.

If anyone is interested in this kind of investment hit me up, I have a mortgage broker friend of mine that can set you up.

Invest in property, buy a place, rent it out, and sell it in a few years. Investing in property is safe too, its not like the stock market that it will crash. Even if the price of the house does go down, you will still be getting money for renting it out, and eventually it will go up.

Investing money in a business you do not know is risky.

I would probaby invest it in shooting themed content. The return would be 100% within 2 years and continue to supply a return of 50% a year. These are minimum figures. The problem is raising the $100k to shoot 25 scenes. try going to a bank with a business plan for porn.

Show me the property or shares that will do that.

Real estate, or better, land. This does not have to be, and preferably not, in the UK, EU or USA.

Sounds reasonable plan!

On property - can't say it will return 50% annually (least not in the conventional marketplace), but am aware and involved in what govt stats claim to be average capital increases on land of, eg. last year 40%-60%. Again, depends what price a buyer will pay, irrespective of perceived value.

I'd be more sceptical and assess it at 30% increase per annum - anything else is a bonus.

The difference with land is you don't have to work at it - just sit on it. There will never be more land on the planet

Flip side is that is not exactly exciting if your heart is in another area of business activity where you get a buzz.
