Ms Power, 34, her two daughters Katie, 10, and Emily, eight, had been battered repeatedly with a fibreglass pole -- their skulls had effectively been smashed, said the judge.

"The pole is 4ft, weighs around 1kg, made of fibreglass, with plastic-like coating," he said.

Hotel plunge man charged with murder

A BRITISH man who fell from a hotel balcony in Greece with his two children has been charged with murder after his six-year-old son died in the incident, the Foreign Office confirmed.

The man, whose two-year-old daughter survived the fall, has also been charged with attempted murder.

The young girl is in hospital in a stable condition following the fall on the island of Crete, hospital officials said.
