One of my partners bid on drugs.com and he had a higher bid sent in then what it sold for but bid missed the closing by a couple minutes and the other guy got it. That was a good one though.
Originally posted by KRL I think that's because the guys that have the really big domains will never let go of them. The asking prices would be astronomical.

I remember that there was a pool of (by then) big webmasters at Ynot or hahahahahahaha trying to collect money to bid for drugs.com. Does anybody else remember that and what eventually happened? I only know that, obviously, they didn´t get the domain, but I wonder how much they managed to collect.
Also, from the old days, I remember that Webfather paid $50k for porn.com
Added: Sorry, I didn´t know I couldn´t mention the other board.

it's still similar to the concept of real estate, they only made one
Penslyvania 1600, and there is only one business.com
in time , maybe a Lonnnnng time LOL, those decent domains people might be holding onto will be worth more than they paid for
Unlesss, by then there is a completely new naming style/system all toghether, ala realnames, etc....
Not that I ever want to be caught agreeing with 12clicks, but exactly how many years before dotnology.com would be worth 2.5 million again? I buy a lot of domains, but wouldn't have ever thought to buy that one - even if it was brought to my attention. If it expired - I wouldn't pay $10 for it. I ca't believe someone paid money for that. I think it must be a typo or something - it is a parked domain.
There are a LOT of domains that simply aren't worth the registration fee. Domains expire every day - if you check them out - you will see people were asking thousands for them, now they aren't worth $10 to renew.
There was a time were people were getting huge amounts of money for domains that would never be profitable - just as there were companies with billion dollar market caps that couldn't even be expected to make $1,000,000 in sales - much less profit.
Domains AREN'T like real estate. There is only so much land, but there are almost an infinite amount of domains. 99.99% of them aren't worth $1.00.

how much was "sex.com" ?
Gee, I wonder how much dotcom.biz will go for?
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.
Sex.com was registered when they were giving out domains for free, so not even.
that's the truth ...
as far as what it might be worth today ... the judgement against the guy whole stole it was $60M, including the mansion we will be partying at Saturday night in San Diego
eventually, earth will lose.
enjoy it while it lasts.
but I can kinda hear my great grandfather thinking the same thing when he sold that 2 story house on the fucking corner of Hollywood Blvd & Vine St back in the 20s!
Umm I'd say Sex.com would be worth ohh about US$500 minimum, maybe double that depending on the buyer.
The internet is still growing and its got 650 million users now, wait till it has 1.5 billion and see what those domains are gonna be worth. It can't go much more than 1.5 billion though the rest of the 3.5 billion people are still doing there washing in the rivers.
sex.com sold for 9 millio dollars 3.5 years ago... or maybe it was 10 i cant remember when stephen cohen sold it from one entity to another or something like that, i cant remember...
i was told porn.com was sold for either 9 or 11 million dollars to iegallery a few years ago, i forget which it was 9 or 11 mill...
