Why the FUCK are we not good at soccer?

Why? I think soccer is a much better sport than football. Why does the US suck @ that game? Most of my friends are spanish, all they talk about right now is soccer.

best teams in the world - Brazil, Argentina, Italy, France, England, Germany, Netherlands and thats it ( Brazil is considered the best of the best atm )

There are also many solid teams like Sweden and also USA

then there are teams that can get good if they hire a good coach, like Australia f.e now or Korea 4 years ago
then there are average teams who get ocassionally very lucky like Turkey 4 years ago or Greece 2 years ago

and then there are the average teams like Poland who never get lucky
and the less than average ones like Costa Rica

the truly shitty teams like San Marino, Luxemburg etc never make a big tournament and they celebrarte eaxch draw against an average team

You fail to understand that the US is catching up to soccer as fast as the rest of the world is catching up to basketball. It is only a matter of time before the US becomes #1. But realistically I don't see them becoming #1 because Brazil will always be #1.. Maybe #2.

quite simple, the athletic kids play the real sports in the US, the delicate non-athletic ones are forced to take up soccer by their mothers so they dont get hurt... so the few soccer players we have.. well.. suck.

The reason is we don't have a huge market here and the pros don't make that much money. The market is growing and as the pros get paid more money; the skill level of US soccer will rise.

everyone plays soccer as a kid here but they grow out of it by college and then they get into football basketball and baseball.

i personally love soccer and i still play every weekend for fun

the only reason us is qualified to be a good team in the world ranking is beacuse the teams in thier divisions are all shit, if us would be in the same group as european teams, there would be no us in the world cup

Not sure how true this is, but i heard that years ago, the NFL and the MLB actually took a stand and did not allow soccer clubs to play in there stadiums so that it would not take away from there profits and therefore reducing the sport to grow....

I would add here that Soccer is the world's sport, and not one that is controlled by the USA whatsoever. That may also be part of the lack of major interest. Most other major sports are all US-contolled, Baseball, basketball, NFL football, even hockey to some degree. But soccer? That belongs to the world.

I have always secretly wished that Canada could one day have a good world cup contender. Some day maybe.

I can tell you why you are shit at soccer....it is because it is called Football you fucks! Watch Green Street Elite I think it is called Green Street Holigans in the US when the American calls it soccer. His sister informs not to call it soccer in the UK, he says why and she says because the British Empire say so.

You say about the big strong athelic type play proper sports all of decent football players arent that strong. It is their skill.

The reason it's looked at like a fag sport here is because of all the "win or lose, everyone gets a trophy" bullshit kiddie soccer leagues we have here.

The US sucks at soccer because it's a terrible TV sport. There's only one commercial break in the entire game. Baseball has 16 commercial breaks. Basketball has more and American football is pretty much infinate since the guy with the big orange glove can walk out on the field at any time and stay there as long as he wants.

No commercial time means no money from sponsors. No publicity. No money in endorsement contracts.

I'd rather watch World Cup class football any day but I may not even find it on TV.

Well now I wouldn't go that far USA are certainly improving a lot but they have a hell of a lot of work to do before they will be capable of winning a world cup. Having 1 world class player would be a good start, who knows there is the potential of that in Freddy Adu, only time will tell though.

The progress the US team has made in the last 10 years has been excellent though

This ranking is based on geography. The USA is noted high there because they play a lot of matches against Mexico, Canada and a lot of small islands in the surrounding in order to qualify.
If they were playing in the South American qualification or the European qualification they would be a lot lower on the list.
The Americans have improved a lot in the last 20 years but they still lack tactics. The only tactic they can play is the old English "Kick and Rush".
I dont see them getting a real top 10 spot within the coming 20 years yet. They need to hire a lot of foreign coaches first to work with the youth.

I like watching the US soccer team.. their odd way of playing really buggers up the opposition cause they're used to playing teams that play to a certain formation.. the US play like a kick about in the park.. everyone running after ball.
