It's cause I don't want nosy people doing a whois and then finding all my domains... If someone hosted it on their own server, I could easily find out what some of their other domains where, I could search for their domains in google to see the pages they got spidered in there, look at their ads, look at the sponsors they promote.

If they do galleries I can even search on big sites and see what their submitting. I'm sure someone who is nosy and has a lot of time could do the same about me.

If they do SE work I can look at all their pages, check what domains are linked to what and try to find out how they got such high listing. And check for their keywords too. Imageshack provides privacy.

I've been nosy before and searched into other people's work when they hosted stuff on their own domain and posted their big stats. I went into google right away and looked at their sites/pages.

I've been telling myself "anything I make above my current average income is great as it's effectively free cash," but in reality I'm sure my lifestyle will step up to match that. It already did when I moved from a fledgling mainstream business to adult in 2001.

Still, it does motivate me some. I think of it this way: if I made an additional 50% (after tax) income, and put ALL of that extra into our (newish) home loan I could have it completely paid off within a few years.

The ironic thing is that if USD-AUD exchange rates were the same now as they were when I started in 2001 I would be making that 50% extra without even trying. :(

It still motivates me bigtime, all the great stuff you can do with extra money, but the kick you get from breaking new ground- and knowing you are capable of accomplishing what you set out to- that is a big motivator too.

I'm from AU too, I try not to think about the exchange rate thing anymore :Oh crap Remember when 1USD=2AUD.. yeah, I was depositing $40 all advantage cheques in those days. :1orglaugh

Ha ha ha! I do this too. Infact, it is an automatic reflex, when somebody posts what they make I try and find out what they are doing. There are already enough people copying me!

Lol. Yea I'm nosy and have lots of time on my hands here, there were times I was bored and must have spent a few hours digging through someone's domain in google to figure out what they were doing to make so much money. And if their sponsors look good I'll start using them too :1orglaugh
