Well let me put this into a bit of perspective for you Bulldog.

I have hired a private investigator who is currently on retainer investigating a few unsavory individuals who are living in the same house as my nieces.

That was just a little background info for you...anyway this gentleman is a 23 year vetaran of the local police force who was also lead investigator for the district attorney's office and handled alot of sexual abuse cases.

He told me of this one case where the grandmother reported to the child protective services that her daughter's new boyfriend was not just sleeping in the same bed with the woman's 7 year old grand daughter but had started buying her thong underwear (the smallest he could find) from Victoria's secret.

She would not have found out about this if it had not been for the fact that she came across the thong underwear.

Now it won't be so strange for some sicko daddy or mama's new boyfriend to be bringing the little girl in the house some thong underwear home...it won't be so out of the ordinary...because it's designed for children.

yeah this is my first post. I've been on the board about a month and finally found somthing to bitch about so here it is.

ten year olds now were bikinis, and thats no big deal, they walk on public beaches in front of thousands of people carrying sand buckets with there midrifs showing...I have no problem with this.
I'm more worried about the older people that are interested in what children are wearing beneath there clothing. I'd rather focus media time on searching out pedafiles than chastising companies that make under-garments or children who want to feel grown-up and were a thong. Pedophiles is something we're all worried about, but the simple fact is that your child does not have the right to feel or dress "grown up."
You the parent have the right to dictate how they dress.
I have 2 nieces 11 and 16that I have helped raised, one from infancy and the other was 5 years old.
They no longer live with me but I experienced the whole make up issue.
They liked to dress up, put on make up, their mothers clothes, but this did not include bras, thongs or nighties.
They were also not allowed to wear this stuff outside the house...and age limits were set on when they would be allowed to wear make up.

Who wouldn't want these sites shut down...the sad fact is the ones with the "erotic poses" are more than likely legal and protected by our constitution.
But to compare these two issues is comparing apples and oranges.
While there are 5,000+ sites as you described out there, they are not accepted by the larger more mainstream society.
Now when you get a company that is pushing for your hard earned dollars, changing what is acceptable in mainstream society and in full view of your child that's a different story all together.

There are more issues involved here.
It's not just the sexualization of a child here, but the empowerment of your child.

Me...I taught my nieces to not take any bullshit. My 16 year old niece came to me about 2 years ago and asked me about what guys are like...regarding sex etc.

I explained to her that if she chose to have sex there was nothing I, her father or mother could do about it other than prepare her for what the consequences could be and how to protect herself from an unwanted pregnancy or STD.

But more importantly I made her understand that in life it would be the choices she made that would directly affect her outcome. And that she needed to consider that when being pushed or prodded or even asked nicely to start having sex...that it was up to her to make her way in life. And that she can go as far as she wants to in life, as long as she prepares herself and takes responsibility for herself, her well being, her body.

I don't want my nieces thinking they are "eye candy."
They are both beautiful girls ( and this is not just an uncle's opinion)...but they are not sex objects...no matter how you toss the dice.

Personally I don't get the uproar here. Little kids don't have money, if they do they aren't spending it buying clothes, since they are too busy trying to figure out what toys to buy.

We simply are'nt decensitised enough to deal I guess... were to "civilized" and would rather crap on A&F than close down the 5000 internet sites were you can view 8year olds in erotic poses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Who wouldn't want these sites shut down...the sad fact is the ones with the "erotic poses" are more than likely legal and protected by our constitution. But to compare these two issues is comparing apples and oranges. While there are 5,000+ sites as you described out there, they are not accepted by the larger more mainstream society. Now when you get a company that is pushing for your hard earned dollars, changing what is acceptable in mainstream society and in full view of your child that's a different story all together. There are more issues involved here. It's not just the sexualization of a child here, but the empowerment of your child. Me...I taught my nieces to not take any bullshit. My 16 year old niece came to me about 2 years ago and asked me about what guys are like...regarding sex etc. I explained to her that if she chose to have sex there was nothing I, her father or mother could do about it other than prepare her for what the consequences could be and how to protect herself from an unwanted pregnancy or STD. But more importantly I made her understand that in life it would be the choices she made that would directly affect her outcome. And that she needed to consider that when being pushed or prodded or even asked nicely to start having sex...that it was up to her to make her way in life. And that she can go as far as she wants to in life, as long as she prepares herself and takes responsibility for herself, her well being, her body. I don't want my nieces thinking they are "eye candy." It does state "Teen" later in the article The retailer has been criticized before for its provocative ads and catalog for <B>teens.</B> I'm sorry but when I was 16 I was buying my own underwear and guess what... it was thong. Big deal. Now if it is really for children. Then your right they should be pulled from the shelves.

Little kids don't have money, if they do they aren't spending it buying clothes, since they are too busy trying to figure out what toys to buy. I can't imagine any parents with any kind of sense are going to buy thongs for their kids, hell I'm in my 30s and if I asked my mom to buy me some panties she wouldn't pay for thongs, it would be grannie panties all the way. If they don't sell, they get dropped from the lineup. End of problem. Somehow I doubt that Abercrombie expected to sell many of these things, probably more a way to get attention. And boy have they been successful at that.
