There is on federal right to elections, because the US constitution leaves the matter of conducting elections up to the states.
Congress: The times, places and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by law make or alter such regulations, except as to the places of choosing Senators. President: Each state shall appoint, in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a number of electors, equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or person holding an office of trust or profit under the United States, shall be appointed an elector. Many, if not most, state constitutions do contain a "right to vote" section.

"The Voting Rights Act of 1965 (Public Law 89-10) outlawed the requirement that would-be voters in the United States take literacy tests to qualify to register to vote"
I really think they should bring this back. Seriously why should someone who has ZERO grasp of this issues be alowd to vote? Why should Bubba the redneck who only vote for Bush because someone told him "Gore/Kerry would take away his guns" which is NOT true. Be allowed to fuck up MY life? I meam if a guy who is STILL making $5.15 an hour as he has been since 1997 is going to vote for a republican then he is an idiot. PERIOD. This same idiot says "Bush lowered my taxes". No he didn't idiot, you don't pay taxes on food stamps and welfare. |
