Heres something to test your morals.

Bush is signing some legistlation to ban protests - my first thought was "wtf - thats really really bad news. Nothing should excuse that.

Then I found out those God Hates Fags nutjobs, and its to stop them protesting at fallen soldiers funerals.

I have to admit its making my head hurt

Morals isnt the right word BTW - I just couldnt think of a better one.

If it was my loveones funeral, I would bring them the "war" experience right to their protest and kick the crap out of them...

Nope I do not agree with it.

Yes it would piss me the fuck off and if some ass clown protester was at a funeral that I was present at and was being disrespectful I may be so inclined to make the choice to punch him or her in the fucking mouth and pay the consequences. Though in my heart I still would not be able to justify that person not being able to do what they are doing legally.

seriously? do you have a link to this at all?

yes those fuckers shouldn't protest, but yknow, what about your FREEDOM OF SPEECH??

If you are no longer able to protest anything then how can anything ever get changed? How can people VOICE their opinions on what is happening in the world?

I think if they do this then this is a very bad thing for the states and will create a major uproar among its citizens (hopefully) - or it's just the next step in a move away from DEMOCRACY

So is he trying to forbid them from protesting at all - or forbidding certain places where they can protest?

Sounds like a "yell all you want - just yell over there" rule (as you've explained it).

I for one think there is a time and place for everything - and interrupting a grieving family's funeral just to get your voice heard - ain't it and certainly cheapens the message....

I'm sure he'll supply them with a "Free Speech Zone" like he has done in the past for others he's been in dissagreement with.

Although Phelps and his kin are the worst scum around, you can't draw a line with speech, it's all or none.

That church is all of 80 people. A case of the tail wagging the dog. Many times only a handful as in five or six show up to protest. They are real nut cases and that's before the funeral - gay protest thing. Other groups show up to block the view now. Usually a bigger group. One day they'll say the wrong thing to the wrong person and find the price of their freedom of speech.

Right now I think we have to chalk this up to the price we pay for a freedom. The government doing anything about this just takes us further down the road of losing our freedoms.

While it's tasteless and tacky, I think banning them altogether is a terrible idea. It would set a precedence that could possibly lead to the bannings of vocal demonstrations at other events and locations. Remember this is no less than stopping people from speaking out against the military, which, while I don't agree with their methods, shouldn't really be disallowed. How long would it be before someone says that it's working great, and should be expanded to include political gatherings or something of the like?

The response I like from the other side has been to get together a group of people SUPPORTING the fallen soldiers during the ceremony and drowning out the protestors...again, not necessarily supporting the war, but the soldiers themselves.
