if your stats suck, it is very likely your fault.

I don't know why people think that if their stats are less then what they think they should be that something "else" is wrong. In some cases something else could be wrong, hosting problems, user error (affiliate messed up affiliate code) etc..

However, 9 out of 10 times stats are down the affiliate blames the affiliate company right away.

Today was a perfect example. I usually don't go more then a couple hours (at worst) with out a signup. Today i had a bad streach. When i tried to log in to check stats earlier i couldn't, server was being worked on by the affiliate company. So i started to think like most of you do, possibly could my stats be bad because they had things messed up on the affiliates end. I am fortunet to have a nice downline. So i checked my downline's sales for the same time period and they were tearing it up. SEVERAL signups over the same time period... obviously the problem(s) are on my end. I need to punish myself now for thinking like most of you do and being quick to lay blame on anyone but myself.

(I'll be back in 20 minutes from time-out).

So are you saying that seasons don't have impact on behavior?

ORRRRRRRRRR

That knowing this ahead of time should cause you to take action to adjust for this?

Summers are always slow. Have been since 95 for me. But from experience it pays to keep a watchful eye on programs. Not always there fault, but sometimes there are bad apples in this biz.

I agree with this post. One of the first rules in business I learned was that you are ultimately responsible for your success and failures. No one gives too shits about excuses or blame.

With that said, it is almost always the webmasters fault. I see people saying "I'm 1:4000 with this sponsor, they suck". They probably don't, your traffic just doesn't convert with them. And even if they do suck, it's your responsibility to find that out and change sponsors.

I'm astonished how many people don't test sponsors, test click-through-rates on ads, figure out overall ROI on some sponsors who use revshare and their retention rate. I had a pregnant site that was getting a lot of SE traffic. My first sponsor was converting at like 1:250. I tested others and finally found a pregnant sponsor that was a little more hardcore that converted at 1:120. That means I make 2 times as much with this other sponsor.

I guess the point of this ramble is that you are ultimately responsible for the success of your site and traffic. Blaming other factors is just a formula for failure. While you whine about low conversions, the succesful guy is changing his site and trying new sponsors.

I hate it when I get 10 sign-ups with one sponsor one day then the next zero.

I have been around for seven plus years, I have seen shaving going on, I also sued and settle out of court(I wish I could name names). Shaving is not as bad as it used to be in the the late 90s and early 00s but it still goes on with sponsors that have their custom affiliate program.

Today, it is mostly newbie webmaster that have been around for a year or two that complain. Even the best traffic in the world(AVS traffic pre-screen and willing to whip out their credit cards) doesn't convert one day may convert the next.

Oh... and that summer slow thing is a myth!

fools wonder why i make post like this. The reason is because i like to see how people respond to it. You can usually seperate the people worth doing business with / reading their post vs the idiots who aren't worth looking at.

on the summer slow down myth... You are 100% correct.. there are no slow downs when it comes to seasons, weather, holidays, politics, economy etc.. for adult internet porn at least. Sure traditional B&B stores see slowdowns, and even some online traditional stores do,
but ONLINE, PORN, is not affected by these things, at least not to the point you will see a difference in sales. Ex. if you get 10 sales a day, they are not going to drop down to 5 sales / day come June 1 st and then go back up to 10 / day Sept 1. lol

Sad thing is there are some really big companies, people on here that have been around for a while and swear by slow downs.... very sad

The better I get at this thing, the more I tend to agree about the slowdown myths. I'll have a shit Tue or two in a row, so i'll think Tuesdays suck, then on the third Tuesday i'll have my best day of the week. Sometimes i'll have a horrid week so I wonder if it's a first or last of the month thing, but then the next month around the same time i'll have a great week. Some lesser holidays i'll have horrible days, some will be fantastic.

The only thing i've yet to have success on are the major holidays like christmas, thanksgiving, etc. I don't have enough sample for testing though, maybe this christmas i'll have the best day of the year.

As far as summer goes, if the summer slowdown is currently in effect, i'll take it because i'm noticing little difference in ratios than I had in the winter. Hopefully it doesn't get worse through June-July, but i'm starting to buy into the summer slowdown myth.

I'm keeping better track of my sales now, so i'll have better week by week data to look at as time goes on. ROI trends, etc. Maybe in a few years I can report back with better info ;)

Yeap, "Slow downs" only occur in the past. You never hear anyone saying, "BOY Tomorrow is going to suck since it is ________" But you always hear, " Sales down today must be because of ______ " IF "Slow downs" exist why can't anyone predict them There are people who swear by them but these same people only talk about them AFTER they happen, which also just so happens to be a day that THIER sales were low. The funny thing is you hear the Summer slow downs... Someone has a good day, you hear nothing from them, the next day sucks they bitching it is because of the summer slow down, then the next day is good again,, wtf? Intermitting summer slow down days People are so quick to look for an excuse (other then themselves) why they are not doing good they will jump on any crazy nonesense they hear other people saying.

FACT: Everyday will be a good and bad day for someone. For every person who is crying they having a bad day you can count on someone else having a great day. I guess those people aren't affected by the slow downs they must have their anti slow down magic shields on..... rediculas that people, even successful people defy logic with this and believe in this myth like a 6 year old believes in santa claus.
