This is a picture of Peacekeeper ICMB testing. These are the MIRV's re-entering to the Kwajalein Atoll as part of an accuracy test. These did not have nuclear payload, but if they did, well ... boom. This is one of those "if you're ever close enough to witness something like this, bend over, grab your ankles, and kiss your ass goodbye" types of scenes. But hey, if you ever wanted to know what your last 3 seconds of life would look like in the event of nuclear war, here you go.

The lights are the re-entry path, probably a long exposure to catch it. ...and to be truly technical, you wouldn't even see that. Those things actually detonate about a mile up.
