High Speed Internet Via Satellite In Canada

What are the options in Ontario... I am just about to buy a cottage in the Muskokas and there is no high speed access from Rogers/Bell (obviously).

So I am thinking high speed satellite internet would be my best bet. Any suggestions guys?

DH: You should be able to find a high speed wireless provider in the area, either candlelight.ca or muskoka.com.

Satellite should be your last resort; we're getting a site survey done next week with xplornet.com; if we can get the service, I'll let you know what it's like. (This is the new Ka-band service, not the crappy Ku-band Hughes service)

Microwave (aka wireless) or satellite are likely your options; DSL is unlikely since the proximity to switching stations is gonna be too far; cable is unlikely since hardly anyone in cottage country would have cable TV service.

Satellite isn't too bad IF you have no other choice. I had a small part in a company 3 years ago that sold Starchoice and we were getting into LinkSat, the service was not that good but compared to dialup obviously it was great. As already mentioned uploads are a joke.

Does BellXpressvu still offer internet? If not LinkSat I think is $50-60 a month (it's been a while) and is not too bad. But I will add I will not buy anything that does not offer hispeed direct as Satellite is very unrealiable.

not to mention the latency on satellite can be shitty too .. 5-10 secs for things to start at times.

Download speed is okay, but upload is like dial up
