Google PR3 rating - WTF is this??

I just installed the google tool baar, and heard everyone saying PR1-2-3 is good, WHY? Does it show how often the domain is indexed by the search engines or what?

I'm a search engine newbie, never really paid any attention but I have some great plans for SE's if I can work out how they work.

Anybody tell me why thehun has PR6 and my site has PR3. does PR mean much all or is it nothing?

      Google thinks your site sucks.

        Sammy

        PR is kinda important, yes.
Your site probably doesnt have any inbound links to speak of.
TheHun has plenty, therefore he has a higher PR.
A little more complicated than that, but thats the basics of it.

It has an effect on how prominent your site ranks on SE terms.
Basically, the higher the PR, the better.

            Sammy..takes time.

            Build up some links.
All New sites normally get a low rating if they have very few or no inbound links.

            Good Luck.

PR also determines the number of times Google will independently spider your page - anything less than a 6 means that the spider comes by once a month unless it has followed a link from some other site.

PR is only one of the things that Google uses to assess your page and where it places it for the various key words that you have targetted. I've got a page with a PR of 2 but it still sits on the first page for a reasonable search engine term because that term appears in areas on the page that Google assesses as being important.

There is some talk that PR will become more and more important over the coming months.

You have such a way with words cobber

There are a lot of myths out there about search engines and Google in particular - I guess what Sammy got told is just one more of them.
