    Young man is paralyzed, drunk driver that hits him walks free

    I was taken to University of Maryland Medical Center?s shock trauma unit where my friends and family learned that I was paralyzed. The drunk driver was celebrating his release from jail when he caused the accident. He walked away from it all without a scratch.

    After two surgeries for broken vertebrae in my neck and a three-month stay at Good Samaritan rehabilitation hospital, I finally came home and am still slowly recovering, however, I still constantly struggle with being paralyzed and all the changes in my life that have resulted from the accident.

    As you know, I was without medical insurance at the time and there are limited financial resources to be obtained by the incident. Medical and healthcare related services, equipment and treatments are not entirely covered by the State Medicaid program. The surgeries, construction changes to my home, physical therapy equipment, and customized van are just a few new expenses that I continue to struggle with.


    I haven't posted here in years, but the guy on this site is someone that posts on a graphic design forum I frequent. He's an amazing guy and does awesome design work. Whatever you could do to help would be appreciated. Even if it's not a donation, spreading the word elsewhere would help just as much.

          Not to be a complete dick but why? Because he got paralyzed by a drunk driver who was also released?

              Why? Well I guess for me, It's because if all of a sudden I was paralyzed, had 250k in debt, I'd hope people would do the same for me.

              If guys like this can get money, I would sure hope people would be willing to do the same for people in real need of help...

              But that's just me.

                  It is really tragic, but if I donated even $1 to every sob story person in the world... I'd be the one needing donations to get me out of $250k of debt.

                      I also assure you if this did happen to you the very last thing you would want is for people to do the same for you. You may just think that now.

                                      Well I didn't want to get tasteless or anything and assumed that posting a link to his website with his portfolio and contact information was selling his design skills enough as is - maybe I should post a fucking banner next time or a full page splash. Sorry.

                                      And I'm really glad to know that you know how I'd feel if I was paralyzed by a drunk driver and had over a quarter of a million in debt. What would you do, sit at home and wallow in your self pity? I admire the guy's courage for continuing with his design work, and making this site in an attempt to take some of the financial burden off of his family.

                                      Why is it that anyone that starts off a sentence with something like "Not to be a complete dick, but..." or "No offense, but..." always ends up being a complete dick and/or totally offensive? Next time just make it clear you're gonna be a douchebag in your first post :]

                                          The reason I started it out that way was for a fairly obvious one. I can feel for and understand what has happened to him (now insert dick part) yet I do not feel it is the right thing to start a sales pitch with. People should be hired on their merrits and skills, not out of pity.

                                                      Yeah, I was hit by a drunk driver about 2 years ago. Had just gotten an M3, had it for less than a month - bitch totalled the car and I ended up in physical therapy. She was like 19, ended up getting off with reckless driving and no D.U.I.
