Unfortunately Alien, you have a very bad attitude about it, and until you realize the opportinities that are out there to make your own way in life without having to have something to start with, you probably won't change your position one little bit. I know a lot of people in this industry that started out with no money (and not just in the good old days, I know lots like this NOW) and have made huge successes of themselves primarily from hard work. You get out of anything what you put into it. If you sit around and wait for life to drop the opportunities in your lap, you will actually be sitting and watching life (and opportunity) pass you by.

You're a talented guy, Alien, but you choose not to be a big success. If you can't make it in this industry, you have no excuse and nobody to blame but yourself. I see people with half your talent and three times your motivation outdoing you every day, not neccessarily in their end product, but in their work ETHIC. If you would stop for long enough to treat it like a business instead of like everyone should be obliged to give you money because you're so fucking skilled, you might realize the difference. I know your pocketbook would. (A few lessons in tact, business etiquette and learning when to keep your big mouth shut wouldn't hurt either.)

I am nowhere near half the designer you are, but I am NEVER without work. Why do you think that is, Alien? And don't tell me it's because I'm a girl.. you know that on this end of the business, gender matters not much at all. Think about that a minute, and I really and truly hope that you understand the point I'm trying to make. I hope it's not too much to hope that you won't just go off on me in your normal usual trademarked AlienQ way and actually realize I'm being helpful here. If you want suggestions or ideas, I have a million, and I may even have some work to pass your way. You know where to reach me.

LadyMischief 05-17-2006 07:04 AM

And for you GFY haters out there wondering why I even bothered to post all that, it's because I see enough waste and bullshit in life as it is. We all know what Alien is like.. Hell Alien knows what he can be like, a right dick. But the fact of the matter is he has incredible talent, and to see that talent wasted simply because he may not realize what he's doing wrong is an incredible disservice to him, to myself as a designer, and to the industry as a whole, who need more talented, MOTIVATED people working this end of the game. Anyone has the potential to be a success, sometimes they just need to learn how.

jimthefiend 05-17-2006 07:05 AM

Keep in mind, this is the moron that called ME a sell out for taking a job with Epic.

Theres something fundamentally wrong with your logic and perceptions Alien you fucking douche. No god damned wonder you think that people are better off working at 711.

711 is in YOUR future, not mine.

Like LadyM said, hard work DOES pay off.

Sitting around on GFY complaining about being broke, and laughing at a decent work ethic WONT pay off. imho

This mentality is not uncommon on GFY, even amongst those who are doing well. Somehow people have associated my having a Saturn with me not having a good life.
The fact that I had a Thunderbird, a Mustang and an SUV means nothing, it's that I drive a Saturn now.

Apparently it's the status symbol value of your vehicle that determines your level of happiness. I save almost $800 in gas each year that I can put towards better investments and to my child's education. That makes me way happier than the mustang ever did.

If the vehicle you drive truly is a sign of happiness, then this guy must be down right miserable: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=607590 :1orglaugh

Don't base your happiness or success level on what you do or don't make, or do or don't have. I used to think I had everything I could ever want when I made way more money working for myself... but I was miserable because I was bored. I make less now, but I have 0 worries, no stress... I laugh with friends every single day and have what I consider to be a perfect family. I've gotten rid of the desires that people told me I should have to be happy... and obtained the needs and wants that are truly what makes me happy.

Find what truly makes you happy... and go with that, no matter what society, gfy jerks or anyone else tells that you are supposed to have.

What it boils down to is... don't worry about what others are doing, or what they say you have to do. Do what you want to do just because it's what you want to do.

With the right money things would be vastly different.

It's a players industry and if ya got awesome talent and ability you might make it to get by, but if you do not have a stock cash, you are fucked and will live as I do.

There are exceptions of total rag's to riches in this industry but do not let those stories fool you into believing that you can beat that curve.

Odd's are you won't and you are better off working full time shifts at 7/11.

I would much rather try and do my own thing and fail, than work at a 7/11 like you say and spend my life telling myself I never would have made it anyway.

D

I base my happiness on my cars, not because they are posessions BUT because it is my hobby! I know what you are getting at - I just get a little touchy about people "dissing" cars :winkwink:

chupachups 05-17-2006 07:49 AM

I all honesty my offer to Alien was meant as a serious, though small, proposal. Board character shouldnt come inbetween business, I think you all agree to that, but alien just is to much. I do believe sometimes he isnt slinging shit for drama, but to feed his own self-pityness. Why would you else burn a bridge every day?

And, hard work does pay, with or without a lot of initial resources. Just keep a humble attitude... :2 cents:

that is true, i make more then 95% of the people here (at least) but 95% of the people here drive a better car then me.

I am keeping my 97 eclipse till it dies. 130K miles so it wont be long then maybe i will buy a used nicer car in the 40 - 50 range. :)

i am greatfull for people like him. The more unmotivated idiots out there that will never make anything of their lives the easier it is for me to make money. Thanks to you all for making it easier for me.

I stopped trying to help motivated people, if they are motivated and want it and come to me for help then I don't mind giving out advice. If they dont want it or dont think t hey can get it, or too lazy to put the hard work in then let them be, let them prove themselves right.

Well unfortunately for me I have a soft spot for trying to help the hopeless cases. It's incredible to me how many people can find motivation in the simple act of someone extending their hand to help them a little. You never know. I can't help but have more faith in humanity than I should.
