The below person's email blames porn for what he (INCORRECTLY) states is an increase in rapes; however as reported on page A3 of todays' San Diego Union-Tribune by Jennifer Martinez and Frank Greve of Knight Ridder News Service, "Washington---Rapes and attempted rapes have declined sharply in the United States during the past 30 years, according to a large-scale government crime survey......."
Might not the decrease possibly be attributed at least in part to invention of the VCR and the ensuing availability of porn where a consenting adult can sit at home to watch a video, masturbate, and rid/lessen their sexual stress/needs?

Hello, my name is Mitch ...
I'm a 38 year old black guy and I just want to take the time to thank
all of you who had the courage to do the right thing by banning
the proposed xxx domain portal.
Folks this thing called internet pornography is doing and causing
incredible harm and damage to not only to the impressionable minds
of our children, but also to our society.
Have you been watching the news in recent years about the increased
attacks on our helpless defenseless little girls, that have been raped and
killed recently. Why is this happening at this new increased rate?
What is influencing this new trend of violent attacks against these little
girls? Even here in my home town of Bridgeport, Connecticut there has
been abductions; one little 12 year girl is still missing and feared dead.
She was even featured on America's Most Wanted for missing children.
She's been missing since 2001 and a 150,000 reward has been offered.
I don't know about you, but this is getting scary. I don't have any kids yet
but I have 8 nieces under 16 years old in this town. And the thought of
one of them being attacked or suddenly abducted by some porn creep is
something I want to avoid at all cost. The fact is this kind of debase material
that is being feed to our teenage boys will create new desensitized ugly
future monsters that will prey on and victimize children of all races,
colors, economic class across the board, across America and across
the World. Because the internet is global - worldwide.
That's why I want to praise your wise decision to not allow a xxx domain
portal. By making the right decision you potentially just saved the lives of
literally thousands or even Tens of Thousands of little girls all over the
world.
I remembered the news that morning that Bianca Lebron 10 years old
was leaving from school and van pulled up, called her to the window
and offered this poor child a ride and to this day she has not been heard
from or found.
I had to turn down my TV set to avoid hearing the crying and wailing from
the grieving mother. It was so sad.
But what could I do, I felt just as helpless. (That's why I'm fighting by
writing).
How about the recent Florida case were the camera captured Joseph P. Smith
kidnapping Carline Bruchia and then raping her - repeatedly and if that's not
bad
enough for you ... he then kills her and just walks away. You probably saw it
on
CNN too. This creature was a major consumer and devourer of internet porn.
And see what it made him do. ( Do we need more of that, or more proof folks)?
So for anyone to say it does not desensitize people is simply not living in
reality. And the porn people who push this filth on us and our children don't
care. All they care about is making money off the ultimate suffering of a
grieving mothers because a porn creep (in broad daylight) snatched
her precious baby and destroyed them.
Icann I wish to thank you again and again for making such an honorable
responsible decision that will make and keep the internet a powerful and
"positive" medium that you clearly saw that it could and should be.
We the American people are listening, watching and reading about this
issue and will continue to monitor this issue.
So that primarily our children and generations to come can enjoy a safe
technological and societal environment free from predators - in any form.
We need you, we support you and keep up the good work!
